"When I was here before, we were on College GameDay, we were a top-10 program, Bobby Dodd was filled, every game had implications in the league, every game had implications nationally," he said. "That's how I know this place, and that's how I want this place to be. And I know it can be because I've lived it and I've breathed it.
"We're going to go forward under those parameters."
When was the last time Gameday came to GT? All I remember was being on Gameday at VT with that game being cancelled and Lee Corso's car got struck by lightning.

‘06 ND i believe. Got to help pull Buzz into the student section for that one.
2006 for Norte Dame, when we lost because of a goober penalty call, I think it was late hit out of bounds that was not...
We lost because the officials stopped calling holding in the second half. Our DL was unstoppable , unless you tackled them, which they did.
The next year we went to their house and beat them something like 33-6 (probably not the right score; but close).

Went back and looked. There was not a "targeting" penalty back then, but the hit was def helmet to helmet. Not even sure if that was a hard and fast rule back then either. Def not late or OOB however. In the fog of my memory of that game, I thought that occurred much later than it did. To be sure, it had an effect on the game without question, but it was about halfway thru 3Q.
I seem to remember their QB tried to duck a tackle and lowered his head to where his chest would be, so our defender that was aiming for his chest ended up going helmet to helmet. Bunch of horse shit if you ask me.Went back and looked. There was not a "targeting" penalty back then, but the hit was def helmet to helmet. I think it was as good of a hire as Tech could do. I'm glad GT got him. He won't pull recruits away from us or Bama, but Collins will cost our weaker opponents like Florida, Tennessee and Auburn.
