Expansion Rumors…

I don't think the AAU will be a hurdle anymore. The days of conferences having identities are over, and everyone is very openly chasing the money.

If it wasn't clear before it should be now that the Big 10, comprised of ten -- wait, sorry, fourteen -- historically midwestern schools, just added two California teams.
That both happen to be AAU members. Don’t discount that.

True. It's just hard for me to believe that in a world where hundred year-old traditions are being casually discarded and literally billions of dollars are at stake, the AAU status of potential members of an athletics conference will carry any weight at all. Especially since there's already a non-AAU school in the conference (Nebraska was expelled after being approved to join the Big 10.)

I hope they do stay AAU-only though, since that would be a big boon for our chances.

Just a guess, but Florida State, Miami and Clemson would be more likely candidates than UNC. The Florida schools have a large tv market with population centers in Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville. Clemson brings the appeal of a national contender. Football is leading the way, not basketball. I am not sure UNC or Duke would ever be more than a Vanderbilt type team. Decent in minor sports but cannot consistently offer much appeal for TV ratings for football. Sort of reminds me of another program.
SEC network covers all the other sports really well. Basketball has value....I could see considering that being part of the evaluation.

Big10 ain’t taking FSU or Clemson.

That didn't slow down B1G from adding Nebraska, during a time in expansion when caring would have been appropriate. I have serious doubts they would care more now given the situation.

I don't know about it carrying no weight at all. Not being AAU may not be an absolute bar with the stakes involved, but they would pick an AAU school over another if all else is equal and may still probably pick a less valuable school to keep that if the gap is small enough.

Edit: Also depends on how much university presidents have a say in the matter vs an AD as well as how the school and athletic dept interact money-wise. For example, university president having a lot of say is prolly a con for us since the finances of GT aren't directly tied to athletic budget.

I think you’re sort of glossing over the funds issue. GT uses the 1 of X grads are millionaires to attract students. Problem is, those said eventual alums are not giving back to the athletics programs.

Funny how oddly similar GT and UCLA are for example. UCLA has not been spending any $$$ on investing in their football program over the last 15-20 years. They are way behind their current P12 rivals and of course USC. That is all about to change dramatically. The $$ from the B1G should really elevate that program which is always overshadowed by the Trojans. While USC has definitely reinvested and will also get the same payout, UCLA will now have the brand and resources to truly compete. They already have one of the most picturesque / historical stadiums in the country.

GT needs the B1G. And the only way GT can get a place in line to join is to wake-up and start recognizing they cannot sit around anymore. The landscape of CFB has passed them by, and unless the school decides they are “all in“ then it’s all for not. This means GT needs to look at expanding a degree or 2. Don’t come back with the GA BOR as the obstacle, because it’s not. The school itself is the obstacle whether you want to agree or not. The UGA alums on the BOR are not going to prevent an expansion of adding degrees at GT.
Have you cc'd this to Cabrera? Otherwise, it's wasted bits.

Michigan State opinions in GT joining the Big Ten

I think people are just reading message boards like this one and just running with anything they see posted at this point.

Sounds about right.

Also, Sparty sounds like Stingtalk kind of people. Tech to the Big10 confirmed.

Has there ever been a more popular topic for a RCMB dork fest?

This place is great this place is trash massive media market moves the needle you are an idiot froh Diddy 400 more posts RP McMurphy actually blah blah blah words words words words words

Someone needs to go straighten that board out about how many NC's we have and the history of our program in general
They would debate the 1952 natty… cause they claim it lol. But it seems that a lot of them would welcome us.

ACC Commissioner needs to step up quickly. The P5 Commissioners need to be in a meeting together. What is the end game? Do the SEC and Big 10 want a world of super teams in two conferences? Would they be fine with four conferences? How large do they want to be?

When you look at the P5 the SEC and Big 10 now have sixteen committed schools. Encourage them to make a commitment to their preferred size. 24 each? Then the remaining three conferences can form a third conference. Go ahead, poach another eight each. That will leave 21 existing P5 schools including the four new ones coming to the Big 12. Pick three more to join you and you have a 3 conference group of 72.

Suggest that they pick two more each. That moves them to 18. That leaves 33 teams. Add three more, let the PAC and Big 12 and ACC morph into two conferences, one East, one West, now you have four 18 team conferences for the same total of 72.

The negotiating chip would be to let schools move without penalty to get this new arrangement set in place without financial penalty. Then get a contract for 10, 12 or 15 years to respect existing conferences.

Now, if the big two say no dice, we will do whatever we want, then the ACC and the Big 12/PAC 12 need to say fine, we will create our own tier with our remaining schools and others we add. We will not play you guys in any sports. We will compete with you aggressively. And, you and the schools you poach will pay all exit fees.

Most people only see 9 wins in the last 3 years. They don’t see the success GT had starting with GOL to CCG to CPJ. They only see the program as it is now. Hence all the talk about GT and how they have slipped into the abyss with the likes of Kansas, Arizona, Nebraska. Heck, even Rutgers and Illinois have more positive momentum at this point.

Hoops has been a disaster nationally minus a couple of years for close to 15 years. But the reality is, this is purely a football move for the B1G. Hoops and the other sports are just niceties.

CGC has probably 2 years to turn it around. I know that pains to hear for some. Mike Farrell mentioned the uptick in overall recruiting vs CPJ recently on XM Radio, but the results are not there. The issue is simple. On O it remains the OL. On D, things have not been good since the days of Tenuta. For as much as I hated the spread option offense, GT just can’t keep running what everyone else does and expect to win 7-8 games a year. A parallel to GT at this point is Nebraska. Frost raided the portal this year knowing it’s make or break for him.

That‘s a good one, ie “ACC Commissioner needs to step up quickly”. The only time anyone in that position steps up quickly is if Coach K or Dean Smith are on line 1. The ACC front office is probably at an all inclusive resort in Aruba this week and don’t even know about USC or UCLA.

Is it possible that the Allisnce worked this all out with the SEC long ago and we just have to wait it out?

Of COURSE the fans would welcome us to join their conference. In the same way as a wolf would welcome a sheep to join his pack.

I know of nobody who regards Atlanta as a sewer. I realize you have your personal opinion on the city, but you are absolutely wrong about how the vast majority of the United States, and world, look at Atlanta. I work for a large French company, and they love Atlanta. Now stop being a dumbass.
Bull öööö. They like low Georgia taxes and low Georgia wages and benefits versus what they would have to pay back in France. They sure as öööö don't think a bunch of Georgia redneck hillbillies are on a par with educated Frenchmen.

And you do know of someone who regards Et-Lanta as a sewer. Me. Get the öööö out of the sewer sometime and see what folks in other parts of the country think of your home.

Now STFU and go admire some of Et-Lanta's fine billboards, literally litttering your highways with pitches for strip clubs, junkyards, and ambulance chasers - Et-lanta's very finest products.

Likewise. I work for a global company and they love Atlanta. Sometimes I think the GT brand is more popular as well outside Georgia.
I'm quite sure the GT brand AS AN EDUCATION INSTITUTION (not a football program) is more popular outside Georgia! Their own BOR literally hates the school, so WTF do you expect? Or do you think it was just some kind of accident that they established a competing College of Engineering at ugag ten years ago, and are now funding it out the ass?
