Expansion

You're right. They should never have been allowed to join without being full members. They are of no benefit in the sports they joined.
They also have at least 1 sport in the B1G.

ND may be forced to act when the next college football playoff structure is set in 2024. If it’s B1G champ vs SEC champ, then ND will be forced to act

Stanford and Cal is the dumbest idea for an ACC addition since Boston College and Syracuse. Which means the ACC will do it.

I mean, we sat on our hands while everyone else (except the PAC which has been disemboweled) fortified their positions. WVU desperately wants to be in the ACC with its rivals. Cincinnati is also hanging out in Big 12 orbit and would rather be in ACC. So we sit and allow them to get a better deal and now those options are gone, so we look at the PAC leftovers? Give me a break. Incompetence at the highest level to try to move now.

Cal/Stan only make sense if there is some sort of research grant sharing.

The sole big prize left for the ACC is Notre Dame and they aren't coming in. I also give a big thumbs down to Stanford and Cal. That's ridiculous, yes, but it's what the B1G is doing with UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington. Really crappy arrangement for all involved. The ACC doesn't need to do B1G lite. Those two will be out of the ACC as soon as a better option arises.

There aren't likely enough programs that would voluntarily tell ND "thanks, but no thanks" to a slot on the schedule. Playing ND puts butts in the seats and dolla bills in the accounts. Not to mention the potential legal issues of putting them "off limits" to your conference members. That would very likely illicit investigations and legal action no one would want.

B1G seemingly going to 10 game conference schedule helps

I wouldn't be shocked if Clemson/FSU are preventing the ACC from making decent moves right now. I'm sure they want the conference to fail at this point.

A lot of this stuff looks like wishcasting by amateur reporters and 247 writers who are hoping for mass chaos for clicks.
Probably the case here. But it wouldn't surprise me all that much at this point. Given this complete non-sense trial ballon on adding Cal and Stanford I would not be at all surprised if FSU and Clemson declare they are bailing, pay the ACC exit fees and spend what they have to on lawyers to tie the GOR stuff up in court long enough for the entire conference to collapse.

I don't believe the ACC is acting in good faith for all of it's current members at this point with the ludicrous idea of adding two schools thousands of miles away with no regional or cultural connection. FSU may feel it's now or never. I can't say that I blame them after this latest bullish*t. They may have a case and may feel it's the best gamble.

FSU, NC State, VPI, and Clemson to SEC. UVA, ND, GT, UNC Pitt/LVille to B1G. There’s your 8+. Dissolve. Use ND leverage to force B1G to drop Rutgers.

There are probably enough schools who would like to leave to paralyze the acc.

Stupid question of the day:
Is Clemson deemed super important because of the last 10 years or is there some super dynamic hidden tv audience waiting to watch their every game. SC is not that big of a state.
Clemson was the #10 most watched team in 2022. FSU was #15. Next closest in the ACC was NCSU at #43, followed by UNC at #46, Syracuse #48 and GT at #49.

ACC had 6 of the top 50. The worst of any P5 conference.

1. SEC - 13
2. B1G - 12 - Which includes Nebraska #16, Maryland #19, IU #31, Illinois #32 and NW #35.
3. P12 - 8 - Which includes UCLA #25, Washington State #41, Cal #45 and Stanford #47.
4. B12 - 7
5. ACC - 6

Wow! We were still in the top 50 after 3 years of the clown and games on Bally Sports. GT is a bigger TV draw than I thought.

I kinda need Stanford to come begging. What can you do for us?

Makes you wonder where we would be sitting if all this was happening in 2000 or 2014.

I had a thought tonight that the Big10 could be doing a lot of this maneuvering in order to capture ND.
Think about it, ND will soon need to join a larger conference TV package because their natural opponents have been mostly sucked up into the Big10, except for Stanford, BC, and Navy.
These mega conferences aren't going to allow for many out of conference games, and many of their "former" rivals may not want to risk the extra loss instead of playing an out of conference cupcake. (stadium revenues now pale in comparison to TV rights)
Therefore, the Big10 has one trick up it's sleeve, and that's to bring in Stanford and ND at the same time. Two huge names and academic giants.
ND gets most of its big rivals back, and can still play BC and Navy as it's cupcakes, plus share in the next even larger Big10 TV contract.
This would be a final "up yours" to the SEC in their fight for $$ and dominance.

When does the ACC ND commitment run out? And, do they even care about that when compared to the larger pot coming down the road?
