Let’s face the truth - NY6 bowl games outside the semi final games are worthless scrimmages. Until fans wake up and realize we are being played by the power brokers they will continue to laugh at us and throw us crumbs. Thankfully, we finally have enough smart people with money who are slowly wrangling away the power from the NCAA and the individual conferences who will force a fair legit playoff system because they actually understand that the more fanbases with hope will bring in more money. Our current system is all about protecting the big boys and keeping the underdogs out. And the fans, even of the little teams, have been brainwashed for so long they continue to go along with it. There is no legit tradition. It’s been a rigged sport since the first bowl game was played.
I love Tech. But, when we had the upper hand, we played it. When we were in the SEC, we would not play a game at Ole Miss or Miss State. When asked why, Bobby Dodd said Tech could make more money playing Boy's High in Grant Field than playing in the state of Mississippi. We would not play in Auburn or Clemson, so they came to Atlanta every year and played us on Grant Field. When Tech had a disagreement with the SEC, we just left. We were much more arrogant to the SEC than FSU is to the ACC. It was our way or the highway. After the pros came to Atlanta, we tried to get back in the SEC. Auburn said it would vote for us, but stabbed us in the back. Georgia would never vote for us. The two Mississippi schools that we had looked down on for so long had the pleasure of keeping us out of the SEC. Then, we got saved by being taken into the ACC, which we have complained about ever since. In addition, we turned down an invitation to The Big 10. Let's face it. We screwed up, and a lot of schools have a lot of reasons to be mad with us. In my opinion, we should be grateful we're still in a top tier conference. Tech is a good school with a lot going for it. I don't know what will happen in the future, but I trust the people we have now to make good decisions. We'll just have to do the best we can from now on. I like Tech.

Yep. We were definitely part of the rigged system and were in the protected class. Once we left the protected class to join the Carolina Country Club we were no longer protected and we know the history from there. I can’t wait for the next era of college football and seeing a home playoff game at our stadium (whatever it is called at that time).

Like it or not, there is a hierarchy of bowl games. And they NY6 bowl is at the top of the non-playoff games. Most of cfb hasn’t even reached that level. You have to build up, unless we find an nfl starter type QB, we aren’t making the jump all at once.

You went from “I love Tech” to “I like Tech” in the span of one post :lol2:

The first half of your post says it all. When we were on top, we worked it in our favor at the expense of the MS schools and Auburn. By the time we pulled out of the SEC we were no longer on top and had no leverage. It looked like sour grapes to many, though I don’t think that was it.

Dodd was always about money and winning, and he connected the two. He was also about his players getting degrees, not just being useful idiots. The money was about building a program that won and educated players. That seems to be a more noble endeavor than we have today
In college football.

The graphic said within a 50 mile radius.

The question was why Duke, UNC, and NCSt had such different numbers. The answer is which suburbs fell within that 50 mile radius. Looks like UNC is further south and west than Duke. I had it flipped with uNC. And both are further east than I thought. But I don’t really have much interest in where exactly those schools are located.

One of the ACC's big TV issues is 4 of the teams are in the same state and three of those in the same metro area. That cannot help our TV contract.

Agreed and adding Cal’s 7 million and Stanford’s 7 million nets us 7million.

And the PAC12 had the similar issues: UCLA and USC both in the LA metro area with CAL and Stanford both in the SF metro area - all 4 divvying up the CA TV market.

I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Dodd and talking with him a few times. He did a lot of great things. But, his approach to the SEC was not diplomatic or effective. He thought Tech was the strength of the SEC and he overplayed his hand. I believe that the year after we left the SEC, the SEC changed the rule the way Dodd wanted. In other words, the SEC knew Dodd was right, they just didn't like him pushing them around. I don't think anybody understood how damaging the arrival of the Braves and Falcons would be to Tech, either. It is hard for college teams to thrive in cities with major league teams. But, it is easy to focus on Tech's challenges and forget all the advantages Tech has. If we ever start winning, I think the sky is the limit. And I like everything I've seen from President Cabrera, AD Batt, and Coach Key.

There is a reason that I ended that post with "I Like Tech." When my Daddy started taking me to Tech games in the late 1950s, many people wore white buttons with gold writing on them that simply said, "I Like Tech." It always stuck with me.
I'd guess inspired by "I Like Ike".
