Expansion

Not sure, but I guess if all the other members decided to vote on it and it wasn't vetoed, I'd guess Vandy would get a buyout and told they are gone.
The only thing about that is, the other teams want an easy win. And their fans come to Nashville and outnumber the Vandy fans

I don't get the appeal of a mega conference. 9 teams would be ideal. Round robin. I bet any SEC fan would prefer a conference of UGAg, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, LSU, FSU, and Clemson over anything they have now.

I guess it ultimately is just greed.
Hell yes it’s greed. They don’t even care about winning anymore. You tell me if you think Clemson or Flaweda State will play in more Natty game now or after this is over.

Was PAC-12 sold out?
I found the answer:
"The regents did the math. UCLA was supposed to make $62 million per year from the Big Ten’s new mega media rights deal. The Bruins’ travel costs to compete in the Midwest-based conference were expected to be in the range of $10 million to $12 million annually. So, the regents gave Kliavkoff a magic number. If he could guarantee the Bruins $52 million annually during the five years of the league’s next media deal, the regents promised Kliavkoff a vote heavily in favor of UCLA staying in the Pac-12.

It was not going to be easy for the remaining 10 schools to stomach giving UCLA a much bigger annual revenue share. The Pac-12’s math said that a media rights deal for 11 schools — even with the Los Angeles market back under the conference footprint — was not likely to net $52 million for each school.

Not only did Kliavkoff need the Pac-12 presidents to sign off on the guaranteed money, but they would also have to take the leap of faith to sign a grant of rights binding the schools together without knowing the exact details of what their media deal would be. Lastly, the Pac-12 would have to pay the $15-million fee UCLA would owe to the Big Ten for breaking its agreement.

there is no guessing to it. You’re spot on.

Yep, and schedule 4 other teams of whoever you want. Clemson could OOC USuCk yearly. UGAg could schedule GT yearly.

We need to accept that we will never be in the SEC and the BIG10, if they bring us in, will make it at a discounted payout - probably near what we make now. UGAg has made it clear they wouldn't support us, or demand us be in the SEC - similar to what UVA was forced to do with VT. I'd guess Florida will fall in for FSU. South Carolina will fall in line for Clemson. UGAg will middle finger us and try to get UNC or something since "well, I'm a UGAg football fan, but support UNC basketball because Jordan"

I’m all for returning to regional conferences that are more manageable and conducive to the student-athlete and not solely profit driven. My ire is with the school presidents and ADs who have allowed these circumstances to manifest over the past decades solely driven by greed, as you stated, and utterly transforming CFB for the foreseeable future.

But such is not an option so what’s next? I’m in the minority in thinking, however unlikely, that there is a punchers chance of us returning to the SEC. While UGA will not advocate for us, I’m not convinced they would spend equity to block us. it could be to their advantage as it keeps out the B1G from the Atlanta market and in their eyes, provides another easy conference win. It could also elevate their academic prestige. We were also a founding member, and I believe that has some value to the powers that be. Texas got in despite the fact that A&M in part left the BIG whatever to get away from the Longhorns. I would also argue we have more historic success on the gridiron than half of their current members.

i was in Texas last week for work and you would be surprised at how GT is perceived there. My A&M coworkers speak highly of GT even with recent issues.

I think one of the biggest obstacles will be convincing the Mississippi schools, as they view us as arrogant and above them…which of course we are. Not sure how the money works out, but guess neutral at worst while having the benefit of keeping the B1G out of the Deep South and Atlanta market.

But what do I know.

Because State is UNCs bitch apparently
The ACC has evolved into a hostage crisis. At the very least FSU, Clemson, and UNC/NCST want out. There may be others. They also hold the ability to block any further expansion, not that the ACC has a plan or a clue regarding expansion.

Bring in the Priceline negotiator.

UNC can go suck one. They have strong armed this league into this situation.

They can all go suck one as far as I care. I hate UNC. Add them to the list of other asshole programs that all deserve to go suck one. UNC, NCST, Duke, FSU, Clemson now, and the ACC leadership. Plenty of blame to go around.

The fact remains, you've got at least 4 programs that are now willing to blow up the whole damn thing if they don't get what they want. A Mexican standoff.

They can each pay $120 million and give us their media rights until 2036. It is in the contract. It is easy to leave. It is outlined in the GOR.

That would basically add another $20MM per year to the remaining schools in the conference and get them near $60MM per year through the end of the contract. That's getting into competitive range.

Which says a lot about how big of a disaster the Swofford deal that is handcuffing everyone really is.

So what was the purpose of the so called 'look-ins' that are apparently in the contract with ESPN? I am sure any analytics person can show that the contract is drastically under market value for what our ratings/schools produce for the money being paid. If ESPN refuses to increase payments on the facts based on of our peers, wouldn't it be a breach of contract and grounds for a cancellation? Sounds like a deceptive clause - yes we'll (ESPN) look at your numbers every so often, but here, take the same amount for the life of the contract and be happy.

Sounds like the endgame for the schools that don't join up/invited for the two conference (Big10/SEC) breakaway league that will be in here in about 5 years or so.
