I just wonder if anyone behind all these big deals and ideas of these mega conferences have taken into account the loss of viewership from people who just won't watch anymore since their teams have been eliminated from big time football. I used to always tune into the big match ups and even watch plenty of MACtion years ago. I mean part of it is just growing up and having more responsibility and less time, but if GT is left out of the big picture I'm not watching any games in NFL lite.
I wonder the same things, but I also wonder about a couple more things, too.
The first is, do the schools lining up to enter the BIG 2 consider, with so many top programs joining up, the lessening probabilities of their team reaching the pinnacle? It's a whole lot easier for OU to reach the playoffs from the B12 than it will be from a bulked-up SEC. What happens when these schools see the handwriting on the wall? Will they leave or be content to become Ole Miss or Maryland?
The second is, does life really change all that much for a GA Tech who is left playing with UNC, NCSU, Wake, Dook, UVA, VPI, Miami, Pitt, Louisville, etc. Except for Clemson and UGA, and occasionally FSU, what's different? A couple of teams. So, we schedule Oklahoma State, Arizona State, and/or Stanford instead.
I don't see much of a change for GA Tech except that the den of thieves has engorged itself with a bunch of programs that want to be a minor league pro division that we won't play anymore. To them I say, "Good riddance." Those programs that will ultimately just be fodder. It will cost us 2 maybe 3 teams on our schedule. There are more where they came from.
