Any implications that Ball is great because he beat out Suggs would have to come from someone who did not catch any GT games in 2002. Sometimes you play a freshman because he is way too good to keep off the field (see Maurice Clarett). Sometimes you play him because he is the best you have (see Joe Hamilton).
I made no implications that he was great. Law_bee used our freshman qb as an excuse for our inconsistency. The simple fact is that age doesn't matter here because he is better than our 5th year senior who started all of last season. If AJ were starting and we were in the same position, then what would the excuse be?

If I may jump in here...I think The fact that Ball beat out Suggs, shows he was the better man for the job. He is, however, YOUNG, and there for, INEXPERIENCED. He has not made NEARLY as many mistakes this year as Suggs did last year.AJ CONSISTENTLY overthrew open recivers. I'm not saying Ball dosen't, but AJ did ALOT more. I think LB point here is, Ball is a TRUE(Inexperienced) freshman.(Correct me if Im wrong Law) but like I said STILL the better man for the Job. LawBee, I agree 100% with you my man! I think once a persons muind is set, their opinions wont change. I.E. MTA.

Add to that, why not fire the Miami coach for letting Tenn. beat them?
And Texas A&M must be delirious over Fran's success with the Sooners. 77-0 after three to a team you beat last year.

Wha-wha-wha-what happened?

I agree that Tech's is in a rebuilding mode. We all knew that, right? I'd also agree that losing to Dook by 24 is inexscusable.

Think I'll go lurk on an A&M board.

Gold Z, you stole my rebuttal to lawb regarding 10 flunks. We were lucky that the debacle did not occur after summer, but that is the past.

When have we ever been so fortunate as to not lose a starter to injury? That is incredible. I think the reasons for this are two-fold. Gailey has been experienced with dealing with a small squad (NFL) and believes in not killing the guys during the week, but these 300+ lb. lineman are just getting comfortable with their bodies and need constant attention in conditioning, strength, etc., and I fear they are being neglected. (28 days is a long layoff)

Lawb-I think you are on to something regarding the WRs. Maybe the coaches are experienced with NFL type guys who are 99% beyond the current skill level of our guys. Not necessarily athleticism, but learned skills. This is a deficiency IMHO. Also, if Grant was damaged goods, why didn't we sign another running back?

I think Tenuta is a risk taker and his defense has been fun to watch given the fact how boring the offense is. But with risks, comes highs/lows. I listened to the game, and saw Clemson and ByWhoo. I think Tenuta was out schemed in both of those contests.

People have heard rumblings of movement on the staff. I think Gailey is aware of some of the shortcomings of the staff, and hopefully, he will address them in the off-season.

It is obvious that some in the Tech neigborhood have warmed to Gailey, but hate to see us be the one that was the sacrifice at the end of Duke's streak. It will be interesting to see whose teams continue to progress or regress the rest of the way.

Just like some of the ranting and raving that has been prevelent for the past 11 months, I am sick of the excuses from the FOC'ers after every loss. We have some great wins, but both NC St. and Auburn were mentioned in the National Championship picture before the season, and both will be lucky to get a new years day bowl.

LawB--I have never heard Gailey say this was rebuilding...he was going to take us to the next level.

Take a walke down memory lane, Law Bee...

different year, your same talking points.. you have to admit it is quite funny.

Another year goes by and people are still debating whether Gailey should be fired.

..love your comments, too, about a team never being succesful with young qb...yet, you say next year we'll be better bc of it (and it is ironic that a second string freshman qb just won the ACC CG).

Nothing personal here, LB, by pulling this old thread up... but history is repeating itself somewhat with your continued defense of the program instead of advocating needed change.

Now, I know you criticized asst coaches yesterday and Gailey somewhat, too.. That was a big step.

Will this ever end is my point I guess. ..and don't blame me for not letting it end as there are many many posters and GT fans who continue to criticize the status quo. Just wanted to throw in a little history for entertainment... :)

does ONE GAME make a coach?

well lets fire Beamer for that show that West Va put on VA Tech

We should also fire Stoops for losing to Okie St for 2 years straight when they clearly had the better team

How bout USC's coach for letting a VERY WEAK California team slap them down.

and of course THE BIGGEST upset of the day yesterday was Clem's son overcoming a 17pt underdog status to beat the mighty # 3 F$U

we also should fire Fridge....how could he let a team that scored just 7pts stop his mighty offense

lets also fire Grobe who lost to a pathetic NC team that we will probably beat this weak

Lets fire all these coaches and bring in someone that will not let this type of stuff happen.

you people are KIDDING yourself

I am happy Roof has done a good job but come find me in a year and lets see what the score is

With "critical thinking" like this, I doubt you're a Tech grad.

What's with bringing threads back from the dead?

Geetee, or is it CitySting, enjoys raising a ruckus on this board. It's what he lives for ya know.
