justafan,

Coming into the Tech game, Miami was one of just six teams to rank in the top 20 in both total offense (#1) and total defense (#19). The Hurricanes ranked first in the ACC in both categories - total offense and total defense. They were best at defending the run, which made Tech's 271 rushing yards even more impressive against the Canes.

As for their offense, the Hurricanes rank No. 1 in all of FBS in total offense, averaging 556.9 yards per game. And yet, the Jackets held them to under 500 total yards and 23 points. The fewest points the Canes scored in game prior to the Tech game was 36.

Therefore, what Tech accomplished on Saturday, on both sides of the ball, was quite impressive! Thank you, Louis Riddick, for acknowledging the great job Tech's coaching staff and players did on Saturday.

GO JACKETS!
I wonder if that #19 stat was skewed by 2-3 games Miami played against weak opponents (FAMU, Ball State, USF). Miami had given up an average of 29.5 points to ACC teams before our game. (Granted, if you have a high-scoring offense your opponent gets more chances to score, so points allowed per possession is a better stat.)

No doubt that our defense played great. I'm just questioning whether Miami's defense was really that good. We repeatedly outran them to the edge with guys like Singleton, and we couldn't do that at all against Notre Dame.
