Why?

Granted, FSU is coming off a truly laughable season. But they're still a name and it wasn't that long ago they were winning national championships. Clemson is still a playoff team.
We're 52-69 in our last 10 seasons. We can pat ourselves on the back for climbing out of the giant outhouse Clown put us in, but from an outside perspective, we're still 7-6 and 7-6 the last two seasons.
We don't give a Big 10 or SEC any kind of entrance into the Atlanta market, because they're already there. They don't need us. The Big Integer is already well entrenched in recruiting in Georgia. Ohio State had seven guys from Georgia on its roster recruited out of high school for 2024.
If and when the ACC finally does spin apart and sends programs careening through the college football galaxy, what then?
We're going to need a sustained run of 9-10 win seasons. Not back to back, but at least three or more straight. We're going to need to beat a Georgia - or a Clemson - a couple of years running to get that kind of streak and then to get the attention of a Big 10 or SEC. No "they competed and gave em a game" stuff. Beat them. On the scoreboard. And we can't follow that up by dropping a bowl game deuce against a Vandy.
We are on a better track than we were three years ago. But we have to get this in gear pretty soon.
TV markets and carriage fees still matter and they don’t have a team in Atlanta, the 7th largest in the US, also having BIG teams play regularly in Atlanta will help them recruit the area, plus it’s a great and easy road-trip for BIG fans, and we have a ton of BIG alum in Atlanta.

Miami- see above

Georgia Tech has no real value to the SEC except to keep the B1G from planting a flag in the south. I don't see the B1G bypassing GT to add FSU or CU; but I could see the B1G adding both GT and Miami, or GT and UCF. After this year's UGA game I hope we don't end up back in the SEC because we would be kept beneath UGA by the SEC for decades. There is simply no reason for the SEC to let GT become more than another Vandy with more GT losses to UGA via bad officiating whenever necessary. B1G on the other hand would be glad to have a bad call give us a win over UGA.
I don’t see your last sentence as accurate. The Big Trn has gladly participated with the SEC to become monopolies. They are rooting for the SEC because they know if you restrict good competition you guarantee your conference as top.

Miami will find a spot in the BIG10 before either Clemson or FSU do

I am in implying that if we were in the B1G, then the B1G would be happy to have us beat UGA on a bad officiating call. On the other hand, if we were in the SEC, the SEC powers that be would likely treat us worse than the Carolina mafia do now. Expect to always be overshadowed by UGA if we return the SEC, there are too many foes that would love to keep our arrogant butts in the cellar via the kind of officiating we've seen the UGA game the past dozen or so years.

This is true.

To this day, I'm still in disbelief we turned them (B1G) down, what....15 yrs ago? Oh what could have been. It wasn't a no brainer, but in retrospect, it may been a bigger mistake than Dodd's decision to take us independent. Had we a crystal ball regarding the coming NIL at the time, it would have made the decision a lay up.

Wes Durham: Calvin greatest GT football player

No doubt. He’s arguably one of top 40 most dominant offensive college players to ever play the game IMO. He did not need to lineup at wide receiver. You could’ve just put him under the line of scrimmage in a wildcat formation and he would’ve scored points.

Nobody saw how poorly the ACC media contracts were negotiated not aged.

Maryland made sense. Not much difference to them in driving north as it was to drive South.

We will see where GT ends up in this shitshow. We will see if the state of Georgia and the University of Georgia flexes muscle now to get us in or if they just say "öööö GT" and we are set adrift

I'm 59 now. Too damn old to care anymore, really

I will be shocked if the state of Georgia or the cesspool does anything to help us.

They won’t. In what world would that happen. Anyone who believes either would are naive fools. How many times have they screwed us and some of our fans keep expecting they will one day care about us? GT needs to stop expecting anything from anyone. Not the state, not UGA, not the ACC, not the media, not anyone. We have to do this by ourselves.

When we tried to rejoin the SEC before we joined the ACC, we missed getting back in the SEC by one vote. Georgia voted against us. I've read they said they'd leave the SEC if we got back in. The two Mississippi schools voted against us, but we had refused to play games in the state of Mississippi, so I don't blame them. The real villain was Auburn. They promised to be the deciding vote in our favor, then stabbed us in the back by breaking their their word and voting against us.

If that doesn't happen then there's some chance 1990 doesn't either, so I'm good with it.

UATW or whatever they had on their helmets by season's end...

Bud Peterson had no strategic vision and at the time the ACC deal wasn’t really that terrible. It just turned out to be too long.
