Game Recap from a 1 time/yr attendee

Catch 22. They can’t fire the coach unless you give them money. You won’t give them mo he unless they fire the coach.

The GTAA knows they get money when they fire. For all the b*tching about money, they got MILLIONS donated the week Gailey got fired. I was at Gailey's last UGAg game when it was snowing in the Upper West but a light cold drizzle on the field. I heard more fans talking about how much they were sending to the GTAA after Gailey got fired after the game than anything else.

Well, just sit your fat ass in the couch and wait for the team to start winning before you come to a game. And enjoy the beer money at the truck stop.

I don't think noon games are the reason people aren't showing up. It is the product on the field period. Noon games actually work better for people coming from 4-5 hours away, you can go to the game and get back home without driving in the dark or renting a hotel room. I guess nooners are tough for parents who have kids playing soccer in the morning; but I don't know what percentage of fans that is.

I follow just about all Tech games this year from the online box score while I'm at kids games.

When the play is right in front of us those signs block my view. They usually pull them down before the play starts, but not always. I have to yell at them to put the stupid signs dow.
Since we entered the weekend 109th in the nation - out of 130 - in third down defense, ditching the money down signs is probably a wise idea.

Looked up some more stats - against FBS competition only, in the last three years we are this on 3rd down conversion percentage defense:
105
108
126

The other teams are cashing in with regularity on money down.
Past time for that gimmick to get shelved.

The good news is that AFAICT ESPN stopped publishing the attendance numbers with their game summaries. You have to Google it. So unless a recruit was actually there (which I would not recommend), or went to the trouble of Googling it, they wouldn't know how bad it was.

I don’t mind noon games, but I’m there whenever we play anyway.

I use The Score app for scores - I find it easier to navigate and skim than ESPN. They still publish the attendance with the other summary info about the game. But I kinda doubt too many recruits are poring over box scores for attendance numbers anyway.

I’m a Tech die hard but I have to admit the last two games I’ve been to including yesterday have simply been boring. I had to check myself midway through the 2nd because I caught myself wanting to read this forum more then watching the game. There are a lot of variables that are effecting attendance including Covid concerns (which I think is bigger then some realize), but nothing is effecting attendance more then years of bad teams. If UGA had lost like we have for as many of years as we have they would not get close to filling their stadium either. I hate to say it, but our product simply sucks. If it’s boring for a fan posting on a GT forum, you know the casual fan ain’t coming. The “brand” that we’ve heard about is nonexistent. If Collins loses out this season and finishes the year with a blowout loss to UGA I think someone will cut the check. I know winning changes everything and man I hope Collins and crew get it figured out but it does feel like the program is dying a slow death.

I’m well aware sitting all game is most preferred by the fan base. But standing during the games from time to time is good for your joints. Just don’t try and stand for 3rd downs or big plays. That really makes a lot of fans mad.

So you said I was wrong but I was actually right. The money down stuff arrived with Collins. But NOW you don’t like it because of mutts. Lol
Jesus Christ you are the biggest tard on the board. Where did I say I don't like it because of the mutts, idiot? I said it would be acceptable if we had a defense of their caliber and the term money down grew organically our of us having a great defense. UGAg has a great defense this season. A few years back, I would have said a defense like Alabama's. Good lord you're an idiot

An FSU buddy of mine was going to go to the FSU/Clemson game. He said tix were as low as $18 on StubHub at Clemson.

You didn’t have to say it straight up. But it’s still obvious it’s how you feel. Just own it.

Spent the day at GT with my son. We come down once a year for a game together. That was rough.

1) our OL is just terrible. They are slow, weak, don’t seem to know their assignments, and they don’t play with any energy. They seem like a major weakness on tv but watching in person was eye popping. I went to school during Key’s time here and I appreciate him as an alum but I don’t see any coaching evidence with this group.

2) what exactly was Thacker watching? The 3 points at the end of the half were on him entirely. We are not nearly talented enough in the secondary to rush 3 and give even a crap QB like Burmeister all that time.

3) our secondary is bad I’m not sure I can blame Thacker. Between burton and our head coach, you’d think we wouldn’t suck so hard. Clearly we have guys here who shouldn’t be on a D1 field. Sorry but Oliver and King are not even serviceable backups

4) I wouldn’t blame Gibbs and Sims if they left. They are both in a different talent universe. Gibbs fortunately will have his NFL shot regardless. when Sims has any time at all, the kid is great to watch. Throws and runs so well.

5) Pnode was bailed out by Sims and McGowan on that 1st half TD in the north endzone. His 2nd and 3rd down calls were putrid. He repeatedly tried to best VT to the edge and it was never working.I don’t know why he’s calling screens with this team’s talent level. Coordinator wise, it was GT’s worst game in my memory.

6) for a head coach with special teams and secondary emphasis, don’t we especially suck in those areas?

7) man, it’s sad to see where attendance has fallen. Our fans just don’t care to show up anymore, and who can blame them? If I lived local and it’s a noon rainy game, I probably stay home too rather than see this product on the field

8) the reunion donations to the academic school really put our revenue issues within the athletic association in perspective. $70mm raised this year from 50, 30 and 25 year reunion classes. Check out our endowment, and compare it per capita to other schools. Then look at our athletic donations, and I think you’ll see where the priorities lie

Dang, I didn’t make your list?

But seriously, that’s a great point about the fundraising. Half of that was from the 1970 Class I believe. We could use a bit of that over here in the sports department!

Nice to meet you and your son!

What were the rankings farther back?
