Gators fire McElwain

Mark Schalbach is reporting that UF is going to use the maybe false death threat claims to argue that the firing was with cause. That seems like a real stretch to me (though granted I haven't seen the actual contract language). But if they've concluded that it was plausible, then suddenly the decision becomes a lot easier. Maybe they would've given him the rest of the season or another year without the death threats claim... but they saw an opportunity to get a fresh start *and* save a buncha dollars.
Save them a $13 mill buyout. That would explain the firing midseason.

I wonder if Stoops would consider getting back to coaching? Having that old connection to Spurrier.

This may be part of it, but also the early signing period and the fact there will be a couple other high profile SEC openings probably also played a part.

How in the hell do you quantify "less than years"? Are they retart?

I would guess they negotiated a smaller payout with leverage from the "death threats" ruse. Otherwise I would imagine we'd be hearing about attorney's being retained rather than thanking the Gator nation for the opportunity he had to be the head lizard.

Chip Kelly rumors heating up big time today. Dwag fan on my facebook is thrilled, says his offense will never work in the SEC.

Lol.

It isn't really a rumor. They have been negotiating since last week so it is just a matter of time.

neither would Urban Meyer's...

Georgia fans can say what they want, but the SEC Least coaching landscape is a total shitshow right now. Adding a bonafide winner to that group of Tweedle Dumbs is not good news for the dwags. He could be Steve Spurrier 2.0.

Who would want to work for an outfit like that?

Bingo. Correct question.

Seems to me there are flashy hires and correct hires.

I would not be surprised if (assuming he has control of his problem) Sarkasian gets a look from people. Also think that a more mature Mike Shula has a lot to offer.

Also seems as if UT has a lot bigger need to make a better hire right now than UF.

Say what you want, thats a bigtime hire right there.

TAMU and Tenn both have BAMA annually. Ouch. Hurts their prospects.

Tenn should call mcelwain. See if he will head coach cheap and then break the bank with their OC salary.

Wut? Tennessee is about to spend $350 million on the football program and facilities and you want them to budget a coach? Damn.
