Geoff Collins is what happens when you order a football coach on Wish

Unless GT is ready to spend 1/2 billion on football and drastically reduce academic requirements they will never out recruit Clemson. GT has to figure out a way to beat occasionally beat clemson's and Georgia's 4's and 5's with 2's 3's and a few 4's. Johnson did that as well as anyone.
Running the same scheme with worse players is not the answer.

I’d be happy if we could just beat teams like NIU and the Citadel. The bar was pretty low for this season. Collins can’t even clear that.

I'd be happy if our coaches just looked like they had a clue what they're doing--i.e. some semblance of the flow of the game and our strengths vs. the opponent's weaknesses.

We're ööööed

Paul Johnson was a really good football coach. He won everywhere he coached. His Orange Bowl win and his wins against Georgia, Clemson, Florida State, Virginia tech and Miami can not be diminished. GT was not winning before he came and they are not winning after he left. Bottom line he did better with Chan's players than Chan did and he diid better with his players than Collins is doing.

Hatred of the triple option is a generational thing. Millenials and younger hate it. Hate it. They would rather lose looking like everyone else than win with an offensive they were embarrassed of.

Georgia Tech does not have to run the triple option to be competitive but they do have to have a coach who is an offensive outlier like Johnson, Briles or Leach. Collins isn't close to being that guy.
The 3O is selfless and takes some tough ass guys to play it. I don't know why, but a lot of the guys we have been getting the last few years are either soft, scared, or a little bit of the two. I can't explain it. How can other teams get guys that are either headhunters or want to knock the öööö out of someone and we get guys that want to dive at ankles or jump out of the way of a blocker (speaking of the defense here).

I certainly don't want to call any individual out because I know they have to work hard all the time on the field and they do represent Tech, but damn it is so discouraging to see literally any other team not do the stupid and weak öööö we are doing. Is being in Atlanta actually bad for us in the end? Something has to be the root cause.

Collins stems from the Saban tree

I think after last night, Saban disowned Collins.

Face it...Collins has a nearly $14 million buyout and a dismissal at this stage won't do a damned thing. Yes, I had a very uneasy feeling about last night and am reliving the Curry years all over 40 years later. And after the first few series, I knew that the game was going to be a struggle to win.

Collins is going to have to at some point stop the stupid "We are building a program here" talk and man up and say, "We were unprepared tonight and that's on me. I'm in charge and I apologize to all of the fans who showed up for this loss and we are going to work harder and smarter to get better."

This #404 culture crap, money down crap.....all that gimmickry has to go. Just coach your players and focus on getting better....THEN worry about stuff like that.

I never thought I'd have to go full circle from the early 1980s again.

GO JACKETS!!

I get it. But CPJ's system was hanging on by a thread. If struggling to cobble 6 wins with bottom level P5 talent was the goal, we could have stuck with it.

For the record, I wanted Leach.
How long before we see 6 wins again? :dunno:

You are right - and what did I do in the 80's when I should have been more excited about college football than I am now - quit watching GT. I don't know how long I can watch this any more. The only thing thing keeping me in is I am a diehard and give money and that is about to stop. Can't believe we are stuck with this blow hard, over hyped, lack of fundamentals coach for another 5 years.

The coaches set the tone, their personality carries over to the field. Our tone right now is something along the line 'yuck it up', 'take nothing serious', 'have fun', 'play time'; just line up and something fun will happen because of the positive vibe.

There are people on this board who think our success in 2008 & 2009 was mainly due to Geoff Collins. Let that sink in.

There’s a man who hired him who does too.
