Geoff Collins on 680 This Morning

Feeds crap, then calls foul.

Delusional. Why didn't PJ just take over the defense? The head coach is responsible for everything! Sorry, but when you chew through DC's every couple years it's not a them thing, it's a you thing.
So this is why he kept Thacker....now I understand!

I don't have a subscription to Rivals, but apparently several other players from the 2014 Orange Bowl besides Burden have expressed considerable concerns about Collins ---

Prior to this first play Collins had mentioned how he had something in store in his usual hype fashion. Then when the A-Backs moved into the slot everyone I was sitting around was watching it and then we all saw Collins do his first official cheerleading dance as you can see above. It was just weird. I had never seen a head coach at this level act like that. And it hasn’t stopped although those last 2 games have definitely been the mirror he needed.

Meanwhile for some absurd reason you continue to defend the single worst football coach in Georgia Tech history and one of the worst, if not the worst college football coaches in the entire country. And you call me delusional? HA !!!
I'm just calling out misinformation. What you perceive as defending someone happens to be a byproduct.

I've been as vocal a critic as anyone but I heard some things that I found encouraging in the interview.

In particular, I enjoyed that he is consulting with Bill Curry and George O'Leary for guidance and perspective. Not the biggest fan of Bill Curry but have a lot of respect for his opinion. And GOL is the best of the best - that guy ran as tight a ship as anybody ever has.

Curry was just before my time, but despite all the respect I've learned people have for him here, I have always found him to be a bit of a goofball, sometimes a prick. GOL is a prick, but he has never struck me as a goofball. But considering Collins' style and demeanor, maybe it's a good combo. At any rate, I hope the consultations were useful. If so, next year we can give him Friedgen's number.

Right. It's three AD's faults that he went through four (five?) DC's in 11 years. I can't even remember all of them at this point. Wommack, Groh, Roof, Woody...did I miss any? His recruiting was poor even early on so scapegoating the AD's for that doesn't make sense, either. He got an IPF and upgraded locker rooms during his tenure.

By your logic CGC let Choice and Coleman leave because he wanted to, not because he couldn't match their offers. If you believe that then things are starting to make sense.

PJ had the new locker room for one year. And he begged for more help in recruiting. Year after year.

PJ didn’t recruit for defense … I love this trope.
Let’s go back in time, shall we?
2009 — 4 star DT JC Lanier. Plus Rod Sweeting, Dieke, Jemea and Julian Burnett.
2010 — 4 star DT Denzel McCoy. 4-star DB Ryan Ayers. 4-star DE Anthony Williams. Plus Isaiah Johnson in that class. Plus Louis Young and Quayshawn Nealy. And some low rated 3 star OLB we all know and love as Sneezy.
2011 — 4-star LB Jabari Hunt-Days. Plus Jamal Golden and Chris Milton.
2012 — 4-star DT Francis Kallon. Plus high 3-star DT Pat Gamble and D.J White. And a low 2 star kid named Gotsis.
2013 — Robbins, Akins and Commissiong at DL or DE. All 3-stars.
2014 — 4-star DB Step Durham
2015 — A.J. Gray (state player of the year) and Anree Saint-Amour. Both 3-stars
2016 — 4-star DE Jordan Woods. Plus 3-star LB Emanuel Bridges. And a mid range 3-star DT named Brandon Adams.
2017 — 4-star DBs Gentry Bonds, Tre Swilling and Kaleb Oliver, and 4-star LB Bruce Jordan Swilling. And a 2-star DB who went to the Senior Bowl.
2018 — 4-star DB Jaylon King, 4-star LB Justice Dingle, plus 3-star DB Charlie Thomas and 3-star DB Juanyeh Thomas.
That doesn’t include guys like KeShun Freeman, Corey Griffin, TK Chimedza and Jordan Domineck.
But, by rivals ratings, that’s 14 4-star guys on defense in PJ’s tenure, five of whom were going to be DEs or DTs. During that same time, he had 4 4-star recruits on offense (BJ Bostic, JT, Graham and Yates)
Some got hurt and never saw the field. Some played and were going to be good and got hurt and never played again. Some never stuck it out.
If PJ didn't care about defense, he'd have kept Wommack. He wanted a DC he could turn the defense over to and not have to worry about what was going on over there. He may finally have found that with Woody. But we'll never know.
I'll go back to another PJ story. Presser following the 98 I-AA championship game loss to UMass. Southern gave up 55 points - and the offense turned the ball over seven times that day. But PJ said "I promise you we will better on defense next year."
PJ spent that following spring almost exclusively with the defense. In 1999, against non-FBS opponents (played and lost 48-41 to Oregon State), they gave up 16 points per game. That's 13 other FCS teams and one DII team.

That may be true about GOL, and he did win some big games at Tech. But he has no moral character. ND proved that to some extent when, after hiring him they immediately fired him for false claims. And he essentially murdered a UCF player, in addition to not treating some Tech players in a purely ethical manner. I don't remember the details now, but a friend of mine who posts on that other site from which some of us were banned, hates GOL's guts, and with a passion. I have no use for Curry at all, although he is at least an ethical man.

Irrelevant to the discussion about his ööööty defenses. If you're gonna jump in try to keep up, waterhead
You were calling out his poor recruiting from the beginning of his tenure and I was pointing out you were a moron because those ööööty recruits won an Orange Bowl and beat UGA multiple times. And his defenses may have been ööööty but they were better than what we have had the last three seasons with a "Defensive Genius" at the helm.

The point wasn’t a judgement of Curry or O’Leary - it was that Collins is not so arrogant that he can’t ask for help from his elders.

You may not know this but Bill Curry had weekly meetings with Bobby Dodd to review that week’s game for the entire time Curry was our coach.

i appreciate that Collins is humble enough to consult with not just one former coach but two former coaches to improve his performance. I still have my issues with Collins but i respect that.

I also agree but Curry had never been a head coach so he needed the guidance while Collin has been a head coach for 6 years. The arrogance of telling fans that "they don't see the progress" when the team was not improving will be hard to wash away.

You assume that Collins WILLINGLY asked for help. I frankly doubt he did that at all. He was more-or-less forced to do it by TStan, who, for once, actually listened to the fans. And for all we know, both Curry and GOL OFFERED the help and didn't simply respond to a request. I see no evidence of humility by Collins at all, and he proved that when Ken Seguira asked him at that press conference last Fall if he had anything to say to the fans, and he simply smirked and left the room. Reminds me of a certain clueless politician in DC.

You claim he’s assuming and then dive right into your own insinuations and assumptions.

that arrogance hasn't changed at all...
when asked about a benchmark for wins this season he deflected/dodged as usual, responding with he loved the players and that all of the new coaches bought into the culture. Houston,we have a problem.

I didn't assume or insinuate anything. If you kept up at all with what's been going on, you would know that some members of the athletics board wanted him fired immediately and had the funds to buy him out. I chatted with on in FB who said as much, and that has been confirmed by others. But TStan stuck by "his man", promising changes. Well, the firing of P'Nut and a couple of others followed, and you think Collins willingly did that? P'Nut should have gone after 2019, and definitely should have gone after 2020, but Collins didn't fire him because of their long-standing personal relationship, which he referred to many times. Also, have you ever heard Collins say one thing directed to the body of Tech fans? If you have, then show the evidence.

So is it Three AD's Fault that PJ went to 2 Orange Bowls, played in 3 ACC Title games, won an ACC Championship and beat the Mutts 3 times and had two 11 Win seasons? Is it still PJs fault that Coach Collins can't coach?
