Gruden to Tennessee

The guy the boosters wanted said no. Is he supposed to wait until Gruden says yes? In which case, you don't have a football coach and lose any recruiting.

The sad part is Cincinnati will end up with a better coach in this exchange than we did.

Quit being so pessimistic. Anyone was an upgrade over ööööing Vince Dooley Jr.

Who were you going to get better than Jones? Last I checked, they were turning down the job.

Who didn't turn them down?

Butch Jones is an upgrade over Dooley. And better than Gruden would have been.

I don't disagree at all. Gruden doesn't have a college background and recruiting would be a challenge. Jones knows how to take sub-standard recruits and make them into a better team. Something Johnson does on offense, but completely fails at on defense and special teams. He'll get them in a bowl next year.

Disagree with this. While the influence of a HC on a program's overall recruiting is mostly over stated, I think you have to realize how much status Gruden holds to all of these HS kids. While its easy for middle aged dudes like me and you to be dismissive, these kids watch nothing but ESPN and are mesmerized by him.

As long as he had a solid staff to coach these kids, he could just rake in the HS talent from all of the air time he has gotten on MNF and from his QB camp shows. Basically, he would already be starting with a talent advantage over other schools which isn't a bad thing.
