How long does it take to install an Offense?

this is a fair take. We struggled making offensive adjustments all season. The quick passing game and simple RPO scheme should benefit Sims this year as well.
I am a firm believer in putting people in positions to do well. I kind of feel that Sims was set up for failure, with the previous offense. I have not seen the new offense, in play. So, I cannot say that Sims will do better or not. However; the overall concept of the RPO is quick hitting plays. Whether that system can get applied on field, remains to be seen.

This is the funniest ööööing öööö I've heard in a while.

So you think there's a coach out there who is willing to come to tech and recruit to the level of UGAy? Do you understand that there's more issues to solve than just "hire a good recruiter"?

This is why we need to go back to the option/other scheme that gives us a schematic advantage. One that takes 2 and 3 stars in traditional offenses but are 4 and 5 stars in our scheme. There's your recruiting problem solved (especially on the line okay). You then break the bank in a lights out defensive coordinator.

I'm personally hoping Bohannon or Monken is hired next year.

I think you need to follow along more. No one is saying GT will recruit at any level close to UGA. Read my post above. Mullen doesn’t like recruiting, and that was well known and documented by Rivals.com, etc while he was at UF. Not recruiting well to Starkville is one thing, but to despise recruiting at the level he reportedly does, is a true indicator he’s not meant for the college game anymore. UF should have a Top 15 class every year. Instead, UGA, Bama, Clemson, tOSU, etc we’re landing players out of UF’s backyard. He was flirting with trying to get an NFL job after the 2020 season anyway.

Again, I’ll say it again. There is only 1 reasonable answer that could generate buzz (especially on the recruiting trail) and that’s Sanders. Look at the players he’s getting to come to Jackson State. If he can’t recruit around a Top 20-25 level at GT, then the proof is there. All the excuses, whining and finger pointing about how it’s everyone else’s fault for holding little ole GT down will go out the window.

The true enemy of GT sports will truly be exposed. It’s called……The school itself.

it looks to me that our passing game was based upon, generally speaking, a pro-style, progression based downfield scheme requiring the QB to make post-snap reads. This has not been Sims strength to date. It’s not a knock on him; rather, a failure of our OC to adjust to his strengths. A zone-read scheme accented with a concise RPO scheme would play to Sims’ advantages. From what I can tell, this is where CCL is going. I could be wrong and we’ll ultimately find out in a few weeks.

Sanders would do the same as CGC. He does well at Jacksonville state for a reason.

Now I would also love to see urban Meyer come here and coach (don't care much for his personal life). The man can coach (plus people such as yourself who think it's possible to win via recruiting, which I'm not saying is impossible, I just don't see it, are happy as well). Everybody wins... maybe

True, but a lot of those points with Sims were in the first and 4th quarter of games, if my recollection is right. It's like he would script a couple good drives to open the game and then have a dry spell for a couple quarters, then score some in garbage time. I guess the point is that our ppg last year was a bit misleading and we have significant room for improvement on both sides.

An interesting theory based on an incorrect guess. Sims had few if any “garbage” points.

Sims also didn't play against our 3 toughest (by far) opponents, so it's natural his numbers are going to look better when he only played mediocre ACC teams.

True on the first point, but only a fool would expect him to do no better than Yates. For the teams he did play, he hung 45 on UNC and 30 on Miami. UVA wasn’t great but 40 points is pretty damn good.

All I’m saying is, I wouldn’t expect the new guy to do much better than Patenaude did with Sims last year in terms of points. 30 PPG would be “good” for any team. Taking that up to 33 or 35 would be tremendous. That’s a Top 20 offense.

Points wise He'll add a few more , but The key is he'll make the plays more suitable to our guys strength and more efficent.

Would that mean that, for the second time in five years, we would be having the greatest transition in the history of the world since the Roman empire???

I think the biggest thing I'm hoping for is that the upgrades to the offensive coaching staff will allow Collins to concentrate completely on defense. He's actually demonstrated he can field a good defense as a DC. There has to be a semi-competent coach lurking beneath the marketing veneer, right?
I don’t understand these concentrate completely on defense comments. Wtf is he concentrating on normally? I’ve watched him on sidelines and most of the time he’s either pep talking players or showing the ref where the ball goes out of line. Are we delegating those responsibilities to someone else? Because if not, the defense is pretty much gonna look like how it did with Thacker for the past 3 years.

I would be happy if a coach who had been successful at the highest level became the Head Coach at Tech. It would lift my morale, because it would show that a very successful coach thought Tech had enough potential to risk his reputation to succeed here. It would signal that Tech was serious enough about football to attract a coach who had high standards for success on the field. I would be very excited if Urban Myer came to Tech. We don't need to take a chance on an unproven coach. We need a proven coach to take a chance on Tech. People seem to think Tech is irrelevant, and the last three years have made them feel that way. We need to be relevant again. If we don't win eight games this year, upset Clemson, Ole Miss or Georgia, and avoid being beaten by a less talented team and also avoid being humiliated by a more talented team, then we need a new coach and a new AD. And if Tech people don't come up with the money to do this and hire great replacements, we need to drop sports. Of course, I am pulling for Collins and Stansbury to prove me wrong and have a great season. But, if they don't, it's time for the money people to rescue Tech or for the doors to be closed. At least, that's what I think. We can't expect The Big Ten or anybody else to see value in Tech, if Tech people don't do everything they can to invest in Tech.

These important side line functions cannot be neglected or the players are going to be depressed and the ref will not know where to spot the ball. We’re in a real dilemma.

CGC had his hand in the jar on offense for a lot the last 2 seasons trying to help out with personnel groupings and sets because we were struggling to score and keep guys healthy. He is hands off with this new offensive staff and focusing his time on defense when its not full team portions of practice. He's been in on all the defensive meetings etc. whereas last seasons he was splitting time in both, and more offense than defense.

How close are you to the program that you know these things?

Comparing Sanders to Collins is a bit of a stretch. An NFL HOF player who just recently got into coaching and is already proving himself on the recruiting trail and on the field is much different than Collins.

Collins had a reputation as a defensive minded assistant coach who could recruit before going to Temple. Let’s also keep in mind that Matt Ruhle left Temple from a talent / scheme standpoint offensively vs what GT had in place to move from the spread option to a more traditional offense. The OL GT had and still does is not what solid offenses are built around. Now going into year 4, the OL should no longer be 5he liability it’s been.

I believe Sanders could bring in an elite staff at GT and elevate the program. His name and reputation go a long way with the current generation of recruits. From a risk / reward standpoint, this is a viable option.

To be honest, there aren’t many proven names out there that would leave their current situation in the P5 for GT. GT in all likelihood would end up with an NFL assistant or an up and coming MAC level HC.
