I know I’m old fashioned…

Parking half a mile away is nothing. Do people expect to be able to park on the field?

No entry line at the northwest corner gate, which was right by my seats in 145. Did anybody think to try a different gate?

I dunno, my requirement is to get to the stadium and watch the game. I don’t care about pregame activities or going to a restaurant by the stadium. My requirements were met. It kinda seems like some people are crying over relatively mild, avoidable inconveniences, like having more people at a football game than at the Huntsville Symphony.

There was no indicaton at the south end of the stadium, that there was any other gate than that one. As I posted earlier, if a stadium person had not picked me up in a golf cart, because she saw me using a hiking stick, I wouldn't have known about the north gates

Got to Birmingham around 11am. Went to Good People Brewing. Place became increasingly packed with GT fans. Only had one bartender, but she busted her tail and was great. Pizza place next door was awesome. Tortugas. Manager there said he thought the bowl game was actually on a different day and quickly called in for extra help. Forgot to get parking in advance before they sold out, but left for the stadium around 130 hoping to find another lot. Friend got let into orange lot for $30 so headed that direction. Found free street parking just outside lot. Quick walk to stadium and 10 min wait or so in line. Was in the stadium about 15 min before kickoff. Game sucked. Refs sucked. Left during the downpour and got completely soaked on the way back to the car. Think I am still drying off.
I was stunned to see not only street parking near the stadium, but FREE street parking. You sure don't find that in Atlanta anymore

While I was walking to the game, I just used my phone to bring up a stadium map, find my section, and select the best gate to enter.

Yeah, there was one play in particular where there were two players clearly visible in the backfield - Biggers heading for the QB with his arms in the air, and a Vandy guy behind him holding on for dear life. No call, and might have even been a flag against us for something else.

What’s galling was that Vandy was jawing and playing chippy from the start - refs should have been keeping an eye on that, but instead they just kept doubling and tripling down on GT penalties. Things don’t happen in a vacuum.

This. I saw the same thing. There were 2-3 where it was also blatantly obvious like that and many more that could have been called. I do think that was the most egregious one.

Glad you had the experience of a lifetime yesterday. That was not my experience and from the complaints I heard & read and the backup at the south entrance, I am not alone in my opinions.

Unconveniences are built into this complex and how they operate it. Some of the inconveniences are avoidable if they plan for them (maybe have the shuttle drop off at another gate and have people directing the crowd to other entrances) and maybe open the damn gates at the exit when people are trying leave.

If the VBC has one 36" door to let in their 1900 patrons for the Huntsville Symphony, then going there to hear a concert would be a PITA too.

They DID show the replay of the face-mask sham, on the jumbotron, and it CLEARLY showed the Vandy player grabbing our man's facemask, not the reverse. That's when the "refs, you suck" chant erupted throughout the stadium. Even a Vandy friend of mine who was there, couldn't offer any explanation other than "karma", but he wouldn't explain what that word was supposed to mean.
It should have been offsetting. The offensive facemask wasn’t super obvious on the TV replay angle (but I believe everyone who was there and saw it in the Jumbotron). I promise you our defender also grabbed the WR’s facemask earlier in the route, turning the receiver’s head as he ran by, and it was clear as day on the TV replay. Bad call by the refs regardless for missing the offensive one that should have offset ours.

Regardless, I felt the phantom DPI (which also lead to the unsportsmanlike) and especially the picked up kick-catch interference calls were way more egregious. Not to mention some of the uncalled holding by their line.

The great news for you Vippy is that there will be another Birmingham Bowl next year and since it was such a great venue and great time for you, if you plan ahead you can go again next year.

Seems like the dipshits who couldn’t navigate a stadium are feeling a little chippy. :-)

Anybody correctly pointing out that they were Big10 refs is missing the point of the meme. SEC headquarters in B'ham is where the refs went to collect their bribes.

Don’t be a clown dude. I walked around on either side of the “club” section and it was a nightmare. The walkway at the top of Sections 106 to 101 or so were completely clogged with people trying to order drinks. And the concessions ran out of everything except water in the middle of the 3rd quarter. The lines for the restrooms on the northern end of the stadium was probably 100+ men deep.

That stadium is a joke and you are oblivious if you didn’t happen to notice it.

Yep. I was there, and I encountered the same crap that you did. I had to miss the opening of the second half, because of the lines for the restrooms.
