I'm sure he is and he could lose out and not get canned but I'm done. I really wanted him to succeed and with what he did after taking over last year I was ok with the hire.
I'm tired of excuses and saying it takes time. Sure maybe it takes time to win the conference but most of us would have been happy winning 6 ööööing games and making a ööööty bowl this year. It doesn't look like we'll even do that.

I know they won't fire him after one year but I would be watching the market and keeping the option open if we could find a good candidate. GT football is still an embarrassment and not getting much better under key.

He won't get fired after one year, but could get fired after two and will almost certainly get fired after 3 without a dramatic change in trend.

The buyout drops after year 2. It's pretty favorable for GT, all things considered, but without the commitment to significantly increase program budget the real question is: who do you think we could get that would be any better?

Our other serious candidates are coaching at Tulane and Liberty this year.

It's still early. Unfair IMO for folks here to call for him to go a little more than halfway through his first full season. I was against hiring him in the first place, but he's now my coach and should be given every reasonable opportunity to succeed. Unless they just lose every game, you have to give him until at least the end of next season. And probably and reasonably, a third full season.

Calling for firing is a bit much, wouldn't blame anyone for writing off the rest of the time as empty air.

Have to see the future if it's me BREAK THE BANK on Urban Meyer

Keep in mind there’s not gonna be a huge line to coach this program unless we overpay and bring in some serious NIL funds. Bringing in 21K fans on a gorgeous fall Saturday isn’t helping either.

Our alumni sure are disinterested and disengaged for a demo that’s supposed to have accumulated a ton of wealth…

I'm not quitting on Tech. I'm not even quitting on the season, but I guess I can't blame anyone for that.

This was always - ALWAYS - a 4 to 6 win season. Still is. I think we should win more games in 2024, or else we have a problem. And then 2025 should be a bowl game, or we need to reset (again).

They don't play a lot of American football in Asia.

I'm not sure Key gets 3 years without a bowl game next year. Even if he does, I'm not sure he he should get a 4th with the levels you just mentioned. Like if year 3 is a 6-6 bowl game year as his first bowl game year, he is gone. His contract is way too small to hold on at that point.

You might be right about year four. I'm not **sure** he gets three years without a bowl next year, either. But I think he does and I think he ought to. Anyone we are going to want to hire is going to want to know he's going to be given time to turn things around. Firing an alumnus - who took over a tire fire progam - after only two years is NOT a good look.

Except he was a big part of the tire fire. His OL sucked under Gef.

Firing an alumnus should be a bonus at this point, not a detriment. If we hire another ööööing "GT man" after the trend we have had then that would be a write off from me from day 1. It only seems to bring nothing but downgrades and purposeless warm feelings that cloud judgement.

Also I edited my post to clarify my stance. If Key only gets to 6-6 by year 3 he ought to be fired, that kind of meager progress is not what we need and his buyout would be only about the single salary year of a really good coach, not a multi-year anchor kind of value.
