Is key guaranteed a 2nd year?

I'm sure he is and he could lose out and not get canned but I'm done. I really wanted him to succeed and with what he did after taking over last year I was ok with the hire.
I'm tired of excuses and saying it takes time. Sure maybe it takes time to win the conference but most of us would have been happy winning 6 ööööing games and making a ööööty bowl this year. It doesn't look like we'll even do that.

I know they won't fire him after one year but I would be watching the market and keeping the option open if we could find a good candidate. GT football is still an embarrassment and not getting much better under key.

If we finish with fewer wins than Key won last year. Key should be fired or Tech should drop football. Tech has stretched its fans to the breaking point. There won't be any left after another year of this pathetic mess. I don't want to hear Key talk about "identity" or philosophy. It's just taking what Collins said and taking the word "culture" out. His press conferences should all be limited to two words. "We won." "I'm mad." "I'm sorry." "I quit." Anything else is unnecessary.

That’s 2-3 including a maybe over GSU.

Anyone seriously think we find 4 conference wins?

We’re not bowling next year either. Lower your standards for how we judge coaches. So long as avoids 100-00 runs, he’ll be fine.

I just want to see improvement. Anything really to just give me hope that we are improving but I'm not seeing it other than a glimpse here or there just to keep me hanging on.

We need something to build on but we're just digging ourselves deeper and deeper into obscurity. Losing to bowling Green and looking poorly coached against bc isn't going to get us out of the hole the clown got us into to.

I'm not calling for his head right now but three more years of this will be 7-8 years of
Irrelevance and just make it even harder to become respectful again.

He won't get fired after one year, but could get fired after two and will almost certainly get fired after 3 without a dramatic change in trend.
And even if a change is made after year 2, what $$$ is GT going to be willing to spend to actually bring in a quality HC and staff? Rewind to less than 11 months ago, and GT was turned down by Willie Fritz at an AAC program. That’s after the other rumored candidate in current Liberty HC Jamey Chadwell had supposedly had requests that JBatt would not agree with.

It’s not like GT was attracting big names last year. You think going for a 3rd HC in 6 years is going to attract a proven HC?

Key deserves 3 years to prove what he can do with his recruiting, portal additions, etc.

I'm not quitting on Tech. I'm not even quitting on the season, but I guess I can't blame anyone for that.

This was always - ALWAYS - a 4 to 6 win season. Still is. I think we should win more games in 2024, or else we have a problem. And then 2025 should be a bowl game, or we need to reset (again).
Bowling Green was never supposed to be one of the losses.

From what I understand of the situation, either Cabrera alone or him and Batt combined decided to severely restrict what sort of guaranteed money would be in any new coaches contract and that was what turned off Fritz in particular. So either that is going to be our policy from here-on, in which case you are right, or we will be willing to offer sweeter terms for them next time. I would agree with you that money would be the #1 reason we don't fire Key after 2 years. Key is probably going to get 3 years and the word "deserve" isn't going to factor in.

The buyout drops after year 2. It's pretty favorable for GT, all things considered, but without the commitment to significantly increase program budget the real question is: who do you think we could get that would be any better?

Our other serious candidates are coaching at Tulane and Liberty this year.
Curt Cignetti. I’d still be on him in a couple years but he’ll be at UVA or VPI before long.

Our alumni sure are disinterested and disengaged for a demo that’s supposed to have accumulated a ton of wealth…

Wealth gives you opportunities to better spend your time. Ultimately this is just another entertainment option.

and it is rarely entertaining unless you can drill down into the moment of a given game because the overall direction has not been good for years

Have you looked at the 2024 schedule? Not sure how much will be revised with Stanford, Cal and SMU added, but as of now it looks like this:

OOC:
ND, UGA, Georgia State, VMI

ACC:
FSU, Clemson are guaranteed games on the schedule.

I see 4 losses just based on the 6 GT is locked in with now.

I can’t remember the rules anymore. Are we allowed to suggest that the coach can be terminated or is that a bannable offense?

Maybe we can get the VMI game moved to Lexington, Virginia. We might be able to upset them on the road.

That rule only existed for Beestorm’s buttbuddy Paul
