I voted “yes” yet still believe he can grow into the role of head coach and get things figured out. Many of us have been “in over our heads” and learned to swim rather than sinking. I hope Brent dies that. This is a challenging situation, but certainly to hopeless.

That is very interesting poll as Brent Key was Clown Collins Associate Head Coach. The problem is Coach Key recruited these guys. This is what happens when you keep half the staff of a failed regime. Should have cleaned house with a complete overhaul.

I do like Buster Faulkner and Geep Wade.... But the Defense still sucks despite a DC change

Through 15 games :

Geoff Collins
4-11
avg. Point differential of loss
16.4

Brent Key
7-8
avg. Point differential of loss
8.8

Note: The loss to Boston College was Tech’s fourth straight loss at home to an ACC opponent. The Jackets are now 5-12 in their last 17 ACC home games and 9-20 at Bobby Dodd Stadium since the start of the 2019 season.

Ugh

He didn’t, and he wouldn’t give Key the time of day if he asked

"Brent did a great job for us at Alabama and was fantastic as the interim head coach for Georgia Tech this year. I know he is excited to lead his alma mater, and he will do an excellent job as the Yellow Jackets’ head coach. Brent is a very passionate coach who works tirelessly at his craft. His players love to play for him, and he does a great job of putting them in situations to be successful. Brent has a wonderful family, and we are so very happy for him to have this opportunity at Georgia Tech”

I guess he didn't mention the time of day when asked though.

Key was not allowed to recruit who he wanted to recruit on the OL. He was overruled more often than not by Geoff.

Well done, sir.

No offense to anybody- everyone has the opportunity to review the evidence and form an opinion but you guys who are ready to give Key the Last Rites are ignoring both history and reality. Get behind the man and give him time. Nothing on earth- and I say this as someone who’s been thru it in a different context, no one deserves to be held accountable when half their time is allocated to fixing öööö they didn’t break.

And this week we learned that among the things that are broke, are the egos of some guys who can’t get off the train so they just pull the emergency cable because they don’t have the guts to deal with a higher standard of conduct and performance.

Hard to ignore this question given some of the questionable game management.
I think Key would have benefitted immensely from a stint at a G5 school for 3-5 years to develop his mettle as a HC. His tenure as OC at UCF was disastrous. His recommendation to hire Chip Long was questionable to be polite. His decision to bring back Marco Coleman infuriates me. That being said, he would've been able to leverage his accomplishments as an interim coach into a G5 HC role. I wasn't happy with Willie Fritz, but that's where we are as an opening and we'll be even less attractive next time around, so we best all root for Key to turn things around.

Key is way in over his head, yes. He's a first-time head coach who brings no great strengths to our program. Defensive expertise, no. Recruiting prowess, no. Offensive expertise, not really, the OL play and offense is mediocre. Worse, Key seems to have no great strategic plan or vision for our program. We play boring, unoriginal football using the same schemes that everyone else runs with inferior talent. And next year's recruiting class is not looking good so the talent level isn't upgrading anytime soon. Key's approach seems just to be a no-nonsense football coach who emphasizes basics and hard work. That's just not enough given Georgia Tech's current position in the football world--plenty of teams do that.

Key was a bad hire of a rookie AD brought in by a university president who thinks football is soccer, dum-dum fans who wrongly attributed some minor success in the soft part of last season to an interim coach who had limited influence on it, and a Dwag coaching search firm that somehow managed to ultimately leave us with 0 external HC candidates. :lolfacepalm:

Every coach I remember us considering and debating would've been better than Key!

Chadwell, better
Fritz, better
Sanders, better

We promoted an assistant on the worst Georgia Tech football team in history to head coach! I can't believe it!! :crazy2:
