Is Sims gone?

That doesn't answer my question though. Did Sims tell them during the week he wasn't good to go and wouldn't be playing? Or did he say he was fine with playing in an emergency situation and then went back on it when Pyron went down?
I think what's interesting about this situation is that I can't recall anything similar happening in the past, i.e. - A player being medically cleared and then not WANTING to go in. The closest equivalent I can think of is Gibbs' situation against uga last year, but it takes a few assumptions just to get there mentally as well.

I read somewhere that his dad died. Clearly he should be on a leave of absence from the team.

You have to remember this situation has been odd for weeks. When he was first hurt they did not get him off his feet, put on a boot, use crutches or ice. He did come back out with his game pants off in the second half.

At the end of the Duke game you could understand he reinjured the foot/ankle. There was also the instance at a halftime when he flashed the cutthroat sign to his family that indicated he would not be playing. Glad we can put this mess to rest.

Mommy and Daddy said he wasn't ready to play. So Key finally said, "Fine. Doctors says he's healed enough to play. He says he doesn't want to play. You say he can't play. So we'll get him fixed to your satisfaction - no team duties until you are satisfied his rehab is complete and he is fully ready to play and contribute."

What happened to the Ronnie Lotts of the world? Finger is too messed up to play in the game, cut that f#ker off Doc the team needs me

Weren’t we told in a presser that he practiced all week and was a full go if needed?

His vagina told him

I will say this though, Batt should be doing a postmortem of the situation if he hasn't already. No matter who was at fault, there is no debate that this has been a bad look for GT and we need to see if it was preventable to minimize the chances of it occurring in the future.
Key strikes me as a little rough around the edges--lacking diplomacy. From the O'Leary coaching tree.

I don't recall Mommy & Daddy holding a presser to say that. Key saying he was a full go clearly didn't take into account how the Sims family felt about it.

We were told he practiced in pads but his status was always up in the air until they said emergency QB. Definitely nothing like "full go" was ever said.

Maybe if people stopped treating these players like kids giving their all to Georgia Tech and start realizing they’re paid professionals who make adult decisions like opting out to play then we wouldn’t be so butthurt. There’s no betrayal here, Sims is a 6 figure NIL paid professional cfb player and chose not to play after being medically cleared. Key did the right thing by removing him from the team.

I was shopping at Sprouts earlier, thanks @daBuzz for the suggestion, and this guy saw my Tech sweatshirt and came over to talk to me. He’s a Miami fan who has a Tech alumn girlfriend so he follows both teams. He said “With all the NIL stuff going on, there needs to be contracts set in place, just like in the pros, so schools can be protected from players leaving on a whim after getting paid or another team paying them to leave. I’m ok with it if they want to be pros and get paid, but they have to be treated like pros and their decisions should have consequences just like they do with the pros.” I think he’s right.

Should bring back the old transfer rules. Other teams boosters would be a lot less enticed to pay a big NIL to get a kid to transfer if that players wasn't going to be playing for a year.

For instance no way Gibbs transfers to Bama after last season if he was going to have to sit for a season. No Bama booster is signing him to the NIL if they know he is just going to the NFL without ever taking a snap at Bama.

Jeff Sims probably ain't in the picture anymore.
He ain't in this picture either.

Good. These coddled bastards need some tough love. Maybe that's why Sims didn't want to go in....his feefees were hurting more than his foot.
