James johnson quits

Well, I speak the truth. Physically the kids a specimen, mentally, he's a pussy.

"Attitude reflects Leadership."

Wrecking ball what positon? If you dont want to answer on here just p.m. Me.

I wonder who this wreckingball is. His/her first 100 posts were fellating Taylor Bennett, the next ten were ripping on Paul Johnson, and the final two predicting WR defections.

Hmm...

James Johnson???

Not really surprised he's decided to move on. If his heart's not it in, then its best for both parties that its best for both parties that he move on.

Kinda reminds me of Ore at VT, except JJ didn't get super lazy. Neither seemed to have much desire to be out there last year, and it was clear when you watched each perform.

Hopefully, JJ can find his way. Wouldn't be surprised if we have at least one more transfer or quit with as soft mentally as our team was.

JJ also wasn't hittin the crack pipe like Ore, so I'd say it's a bit of a difference.

Normally, this wouldn't bother me b/c JJ is incredibly injury-prone and is almost guaranteed to get hurt blocking in PJ's system. Plus, he was rarely effective even when healthy, altho our former WR coach and passing game deserve much of the blame for that.

However, we're so thin at WR right now that any loss hurts. Hopefully Clyburn is as good as we've all been hearing...

who ever said clyburn was good? he is slow and not athletic at all. the only reason he got on the team was his daddy, he wasnt even the star in high school. the only thing he has is size but that doesnt get you far if you are slow and cant beat the coverage at all

This is a real mystery to me. JJ is physically very impressive and was making good progress until the UGAg game over in Athens 2 years ago when he dropped several balls and seemed afraid of the gaggers secondary. Oh well, some just don't have the mental toughness to go along with the physical gifts.

I can not remember in which game it happened, but there was a game in the middle of the 2006 season where he was rocked and I never thought he was the same. Ever since then he appeared to have Barney (your favorite purple dinosaur) arms.

JJ, if you read this, best of luck young man.

Honestly, this situation sounds a lot like Clarence Moore's. Fans were down on him for not living up to their expectations. He had injuries. He pulled away from sports for a year and focused on school.

Then he came back for his final year and played in a less-pressure role off the bench for our Final 4 basketball team, and was a significant contributor from that role.

So entertain me with the thought - if James ditches football for a year, he doesn't burn eligibility, does he?

I think once you take that first practice, your clock starts ticking. So his year is gone if he plays or not.

Yes he does. It starts when you start school. I'm pretty sure he redshirted already, so if he did, he's done after this year no matter what.

Count me as one that thinks this is a major blow. I think James is the kind of guy you want. He's one of the Nate Curry types that works hard, represents the team well in the classroom and a lot of charitable functions, and is a big contributor (WHEN NOT INJURED). James was really good when he was healthy. He made a lot of catches over cornerbacks in traffic.

This also hurts from the standpoint of competition. The other WR's have much less incentive to work their tails off because they know they'll be out there because we don't have anyone else. That's the biggest downside of this i.m.o.

We have 2 freshman coming in who could play WR, also Clyburn and Cone are pretty good WR's and having a good spring so far. I still am not sold on Greg staying at A-back.

If Roddy Jones lives up to the hype, I don't see a need for Greg Smith at A-back...especially now that we're thin at WR.

JJ is not a physcial specimen. He is weak and it showed on the field, he got bullied around and was scared to get hit. He looked like a bean pole out there. I have nothing against the guy, but he is far from a "physical specimen" for a collegiate WR. Maybe he looks bigger up close? But he still played weak. He didn't really have a prayer in this physical offense.

So far Greg Smith has looked really good at A-back. I think moving him back to WR would be a mistake.

I think its presumptuous of many of you to assume he's weak at heart or mind for deciding not to come back. There could be a number of reasons for him choosing to do this and in my opinion is more of a testament to his character to do what he feels is best of him rather than being bullied by fans/coaches. Theres also the fact he chose not to transfer though he could of and decided to finish off as a Yellow Jacket. We're all part of this Institute, players or not, and I think its a fine choice by him to remain true to Tech and finish out his degree. We've all had a dream we gave up for more important life choices and it may be what he did here.

I agree with that. I respect JJ more than Donley, or Taylor.

I didn't think JJ already had a redshirt year.
