Johnson to retire

Hopefully this gets us into that Annapolis bowl. Seems like that would be a really good environment - unlike GT fans, the Navy grads I talk to all seem to like him and wish they still had him. Better NYE trip than Shreveport or El Paso.

That's correct. Stansbury's never been in charge of hiring a football coach.

That’s what I thought.

Hope that the new coach is different than running the same offense as everyone else with the lesser talent he’ll have at GT vis a vi the bigger name schools on the schedule.

These NFL hires don't generally do well in college to begin with. Besides Gailey, there is Lovie Smith, Dave Wannstedt and Charlie Weis.

With USC keeping Helton and UNC being completely stupid hiring Mack Brown, this is the best possible situation to hire an HC. A successful G5 coach is infinitely better than an NFL retread, regardless of the reasons.
Saban, who came to Alabama from a position as HC of the Miami Dolphins, says hello?

TStan: "I wouldn't say either way", in regards to a TO Coach being favored or disfavored in the HC Search.

öööö. :eekfacepalm:

Why hasn't anyone posted this yet?

Because he sucks.

He was successful at Michigan State and LSU. Saban, like Spurrier, did not do well at the NFL level since it's so different.

Pete Carroll has done well at both levels, but that's more the exception.

While I completely agree with your point, in that those dancing in the streets that CPJ is leaving are underselling his accomplishments, throwing in the "leading the ___ in rushing" stats are a bit misleading, because of how skewed our run-pass ratio is. I would hope that in an offense where we run the ball 85% of the time, we'd be at the top of just about every list of rushing metrics.

compiling six of the top 10 seasons in school history in terms of total offense;
