Indeed, it's gotten ridiculous that it's borderline politically incorrect to pay HCs less than $10,000,000 per year. For God's sake, a college football coach is basically a charismatic gym teacher with, maybe, a Rainman-esque interest in X's and O's. More than generous of a description if you're talking about Dabo. $3,000,000 per year is already far past generous. Water always finds its level.

This is the first I've heard that we didn't attempt a coaching search. It's very odd that we waited so long to announce Key, hired a search firm, and interviewed all of those other candidates if we weren't attempting a coaching search.

What if Key is the right guy for right now? What sense would paying him $5+Million/year make other than to make you and a few others happy? I don't think the Key contract tells us much about what Cabrera said, that will play out over the next couple of years.

What big splash hire were you guys looking for, Gruden? Freeze? Petrino? Frost? Orgeron? Mullen? Meyer? Chadwell flunked the interview both on and off the field, and Deion is a hugh unknown right now. Seems like everyone was sour on O'Brien. It is not like there is some long line of superstars lined up to coach at Georgia Tech if only we'd pay more. Kiffen was no more likely to come here than Harbaugh or Day or Kelly.

If it was really perunctory then we did Key and our fans a massive disservice by dragging it out for well over a week, inviting so much speculation, and making it look like we struck out on at least one major candidate.

I like that there's more money for assistants and some incentives.
Seems a nice increase for Key while staying reasonable.
Time for CBK to get those assistants and improve this recruiting class,
