Key HAS to be a serious candidate now

1st win against a ranked team on the road since 2016 (I'm guessing that was uga), let's not pretend this was nothing. I'm not ready to hire him full time either but he'll get a chance to interview for 2 months.

A dub is a dub. Not taking anything away from our boys, but Pitt will feel like they should have won that game. They beat us in almost every statistical category. Key gotta earn it. Still a sexy win tho.

Sims interview on the field (paraphrased):

Collins news was devastating, but I love Coach Key and he helped us through it.

Key ramped up practice, focused on details, gets all the credit.

Tough times don't last, tough people do. And we got a team full of tough people.

That's really not Jeff's call. Maybe he should walk a mile in my lucky gameday underwear and think long and hard about the sacrifices being made by Tech fans everywhere tonight for this win. I can't ööööing stand up Jeff

I think win-probability-wise that was a mistake. Hard to coach a perfect game though. If he admits it was a bad call I'll be encouraged.
As I posted on another thread, good call to go for it on 4th and goal from the 1. The fade play call was the suspect part, your strength is your QBs legs, clear it out and let him run.

The LOS was the one foot line. I think Key decided to either score a TD on a pass play that only our guy had a chance at or lose the ball on downs. No run play because that risked having them pinned at the 1 foot line. Sims just sailed the pass.

No need to bash CGC tonight. He’s gone so let’s turn the page. Quite an accomplishment and like we’ve all said there are several areas to improve. Pitt was a favorite to win the Coastal. We went into their home field and got the win and stopped a high powered offense of a Top 25 team. I just want us to be able string together back to back wins against Dook. Something we haven’t been able to do in 3+ years. I’ll be there with my crew on Sat afternoon. I want to see the different energy in person.

I see that logic. However, spot accuracy has never been Sims strong point. He can throw it a mile, he can run, I still think you need to lean in to your strengths.

Just follow Key’s advice - one day at a time. Enjoy any winning Saturdays. Life is too short to be unhappy when your team wins because you want a coach fired. But, don’t go overboard too soon. Play the next seven games, and then evaluate. I think it is a long shot that Coach Key can do enough to merit being hired as head coach. But, I sure wish him well while he tries. Go Jackets!

There is long enough to really see how Key is able to turn things around. This isn't like an interim for a bowl game, where one game is hard to really tell, Key is now 1-0 with 7 games to go. A lot of winnable games, for sure, and let's see how he's able to stack up against an U(sic)Ga team that all of a sudden doesn't look quite so invincible.
If the team performs well for the rest of the season, you have to think Key to be the leader in the clubhouse, but you still need to address recruiting strategy and things like that.

Except for maybe the OL, which kinda did.

Agreed.Key knows the only way they get better is get more snaps. The mistakes they’re making are blocking assignments at times and they will improve. Fortunately the line is extremely young but they have to grow up fast. We’ve got to continue to improve OL and TE roster depth and quality and be able to DEVELOP younger players to become veteran performers.
