Key HAS to be a serious candidate now

The best thing this win does is give the team some reason to believe in their coaching staff for the first time in 3 years. It was a sloppy win and far from perfect, but you could tell there was less BS on the sidelines and the players were focused and playing to win. This is a page turning win. I don’t know if Key is the full time guy yet, but I’ll be pulling for him after that interview.
I missed the start of the game. Were guys working out on the sideline beforehand to show how total badass GT is? If not, I’m shocked we won.

No need to bash CGC tonight. He’s gone so let’s turn the page. Quite an accomplishment and like we’ve all said there are several areas to improve. Pitt was a favorite to win the Coastal. We went into their home field and got the win and stopped a high powered offense of a Top 25 team. I just want us to be able string together back to back wins against Dook. Something we haven’t been able to do in 3+ years. I’ll be there with my crew on Sat afternoon. I want to see the different energy in person.
It’s always a good time to bash “C”GC.

This week (Duke) sets up as the perfect “let down” game.

After a crazy and short week of practice last week, we played a physically tough game and got a road win against a ranked team.

Everyone is on a high.

Duke is the real test for Key.

This week - keeping the team that doesn’t know how to win humble and focused - this is huge test for Key.

Absolutely the right call. The play call was ass.
The play call wasn’t horrible, but the execution definitely was. We threw a jump ball to our 6’7” receiver on a fade route. The ball was under thrown, and he wasn’t able to use his size advantage.

Yes of course but anointing Key the savior of the program after 3 practices is just a bit comical to me.

I don't see many if any saying Brent Key is the savior of the program or that he should get the head coaching job after just one game; but you keep saying he shouldn't even be considered because he played here. I don't want a guy hired for the fact he played here; but I don't want a guy tossed out of consideration just because he played here either.

Nothing to do with playing here. His failure as an OL coach is the primary reason I don’t want him. If we are truly making changes then let’s make them….

If the teams plays with this much effort for the rest of the year Key has to be at the top of the list. Would save buyouts from assistants and Key would come cheaper than any of the alternatives.
It was a great win...!, however before we anoint him lets play a few more games.

That’s why I qualified that IF the team played with this much effort for the rest of the year then Key has to be in the conversation

The LOS was the one foot line. I think Key decided to either score a TD on a pass play that only our guy had a chance at or lose the ball on downs. No run play because that risked having them pinned at the 1 foot line. Sims just sailed the pass.
So- I was yelling at the TV to take the points for sure....but, as I think back on it- he told the guys all week it was time to go for the win instead of trying not to lose. I think he was sending a serious message to the team that he believes in them- a very strong contrary point to his predecessor who took a 10 sec run-off and held 3 timeouts against Clemson in the first half.

I get the disappointment about the OL play. They're largely miserable, bless them. But that can't be all CBK's fault. Most of the OL is young and perhaps not quite as competitive as the competition to say the least. Give 'em a little more time but probably best to keep recruiting.

We had a couple signature QB keeper plays we ran in this situation in the past with success. Under CPJ, he liked the QB follow where the RB would hit the hole hard between the tackles and the QB would run in behind him.

Back in the Ross era, Shawn Jones would line up under center, fake the pitch to the right, then bootleg it around the line to the left.

There was nothing wrong with going for the TD over the FG. With a FG it is still a two TD game. And with the FG you risk making a mistake that could lead to quick score. Now the play call I’m sure was a toss up between run or pass, but we absolutely need to be able to make that easy fade route play. Gotta work on that.

agreed- I'm more pleased with the message it sends to our team than the actual play call.
