Key HAS to be a serious candidate now

I wish while at UCF he had not negative recruited against us, but honestly, taking care of his family financially is a primary responsibility. Now, I know that I don't have firsthand knowledge of this, but it has been reported consistently by numerous GT alums/fans that he did.

With that said, I don't sense any insincerity in his love for GT now that he is here and doesn't have conflicting priorities. His priority while coaching another team was to convince talent to come to that team.

I now will say what I have said all along - I don't think BK is our long term answer at HC, but I do appreciate what he did this week, and I will watch the progress made over the next 7 games. Maybe I can be persuaded. But, the O-line woes are really still our main issue.

Well, we hired a coach once that had a great season, so we should maybe hire one who had an upset game!? What could possibly go wrong ?

Like others said, I’m thrilled with the win and kudos to Key. It is one game though, and we need a lot more from him to make him one of our top candidates. Definitely a good start though!

My take on this is if he gets 5 wins - or 50% of Collins entire era - this season, I'd entertain the idea of him as a candidate. I've seen this episode too many times where the interim never quite met the standard. There's many forgotten, nameless interim HCs for every Swinney. Of course, if the answer was in our backyard this whole time then we should be so lucky. I think we deserve it at this point. At the very least, I sincerely hope we can salvage something good this season, for a change.

Pitt overlooked GT. It’s great to get the win but doesn’t mean everything is unicorns and rainbows.

Hard to say if they overlooked, or simply had no film to review how Key works. The rest of season will be probably be more telling.

Key was already going to get an interview and serious look because he's the interim.
He's off to a great start but it's way too early for decision making. We need to see how the season goes.
press conferences are better now for sure

Nah, they overlooked us. We didn't do much that was different except maybe line up for punts differently, and most importantly not commit stupid penalties. Heck, if you thought you were playing the worst P5 team at home after they had just fired their head coach you would sleep walk into the game too. Pitt woke up in the second half; but it was too late and Charlie Thomas III was going insane from having to sit the first half. It will be different from here on out, the OL has to improve to mediocre for us to have a chance.

Nothing to do with playing here. His failure as an OL coach is the primary reason I don’t want him. If we are truly making changes then let’s make them….
It appears Collins prevented the assistants from developing their players because he did not want to hurt the player's feelings.

If the teams plays with this much effort for the rest of the year Key has to be at the top of the list. Would save buyouts from assistants and Key would come cheaper than any of the alternatives.
My dumb ass was adamantly opposed to having Key be the Interim coach. To take a team that just had there head coach (and AD) fired the same week of this game and then lead them to victory against a ranked opponent (on the road) was mighty impressive! Hats off to Brent Key! Hopefully, Tech can continue improving through the rest of the season.

GO JACKETS! GREAT WIN!

The play call wasn’t horrible, but the execution definitely was. We threw a jump ball to our 6’7” receiver on a fade route. The ball was under thrown, and he wasn’t able to use his size advantage.

Part of play calling is understanding your personnel. I haven't seen much from Sims that would give me confidence he is able to make that throw consistently.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Bad habits ingrained over a 3/12 year period aren't going to go away on a single Saturday

The fact that Key oversaw the worst unit on the team for several years should cause anyone to be skeptical of him being a head coach. But this kind of win definitely made me take notice and entertain the possibility. That's the really the bottom line. The Duke game will speak volumes.

Lots of people saying that but no one mentions what he has had to work with. Even now we are full of freshmen and sophomores.
