Key just failed his interview

It seems to me that any P5 safety could have made it over to where Pyrons first Int came down. It was a true floater. I’m sure he learned something with that pass.

Somewhat the same with Gibson’s first Int. Too much air under both.

Yeah, that was a HS throw for a TD. P5, it is a pick 90% of the time. And it isn’t like Miami was really playing the pass. Lots of single high safety coverage. Less air, and it is a TD. With a TD, maybe Miami drops one more guy out of run support. No body is doing that with us until we show we can make them play.

He was throwing with a broken collarbone and literally came out clutching his shoulder after that throw. Must not have realized it until throwing a pass.

Possible. Regardless, too much air under the ball which allowed the Safety to come over from the middle of the field. Not a bad choice of a pass since our WR had an extra step on the corner.

Ahhhh, I just put it together. In real time I thought he was gesturing "that's on me, my bad". Nope, it was the collar bone.

Neat. I’m not saying we should hire Key. I’m saying the teams’ performance tonight should not influence your opinion on Key. Because teams that are down to their 3rd string QB often look bad. You don’t have to draw drastic conclusions just because you’re sad we lost.

If you liked Key before you shouldn’t magically dislike him now because Pyron got hurt. And if you didn’t like Key from 2019-2021 you shouldn’t have magically liked him when Pitt turned it over a million times to give us a W.

Stop making emotional snap decisions.

This.

2008 clemson was 3-3 when Tommy resigned. Dabo was 4-3 on the rest of the year (which is a miracle.) The team didn't improve much until the next season.

We were 1-3 when we fired Goeff. We are 3-3 since. I wanted a bowl game, but it was always a long shot even with the right coach.

IDK. He was 'HC-in-waiting' under GOL at one time.

Yes. must've been nice to have been passed over by the QB coach for interim. Found this - does not look like Key was fired. There was a drop off after Taafe reitred in 2014 and Key became OC. Won 9 games his first year and 0 the second, but that second year was a cluster.. Either way, UCF fans wanted nothing to do with Key being a HC..

I like Brent Key and I do think he could be a head coach one day, maybe ours. But he shouldn’t be this time.

Above all, JB’s priority has to be a clean sweep of everyone currently involved with the football program. We can’t have any leftovers. After the black stain on this program created by clown, all must go. That’s how it is — it will be too toxic for anyone to be left behind.

Second, we need a hire who can improve all areas of the program, not just coach ball. Our practice issues are known — what has been going on in the off-season? What is going on with our support staff? I think it’s clear everything needs a fresh perspective from someone who knows how to run real football programs (and the resources they require), because it feels like, and looks like, our program is pretending it’s 1998.

Third, specifically with Key, I’ve seen some outright bad game management decisions. I’m sure some of this can be chalked up to a first time HC, thrown into the fire mid-season, with an underwhelming roster. And in that respect, this isn’t totally fair to him. But it is what it is.

I respect Key as a coach, recruiter, and alum. I do think he’ll be successful at his next stop, and hopefully one day as a coach somewhere. But now is not the right time for Tech to hire Key as head football coach.

As I say all these things, the person with the highest qualification is BO’B, hands down. That makes me gulp, hard, because I remember him as a young OC here, and I know half the board will kill me for this. But as a head coach I doubt he would be calling plays. I think he brings the largest network of possible coordinators and other assistants, and definitely knows what a proper program needs. No, I’m not overly excited about his offense. But just being honest here - given where we are and what we need, he is probably the smartest option. Ok, fire away.

I have nothing substantial besides the fact that that Alabama fans I know say "take him" (as in off our hands). He has a pedigree. I don't think he would make a splash. But the program would hopefully gain stability.

BOB getting trashed on the twit too. and from alabama outsiders. hard pass.

The ditch can't get much deeper as far as the roster is concerned. This talk of guys hitting the portal, where are they going to go? If we can get Key for cheap, maybe we will be in a better financial position to hire the next coach and it wouldn't be that hard to believe Key would leave a better culture if not a better roster.
Let’s just hire a random high school coach for 80k then.

I haven't seen a truer statement on ST in quite a while.

Also re: BO'B and all the negativity...you think Saban would keep him for a minute longer if he was really the problem that fans say he is? Nope. I'm not saying he's necessarily the best choice (we can't even determine who all are legitimate options), but he's a solid one.

Saban learned his lesson the last time he cut loose a coordinator prior to the end of the season. Back when Lane took the HC job at Florida Atlantic, Saban let him go a week before the NC game which Bama would go on to lose against Clemson. Even if Saban thought BOB was doing a bad job, he's going to wait until the season to make a change unless BOB leaves first.

Key literally is a terrible coach who was shown the door at Alabama right before he was hired here. His line has been awful the whole time here. He beat an injured Pitt caught unaware, Duke (lol) under a first year head coach, and a 2 win VT by 2 points.

He literally has no argument to be head coach at a high school, let alone GT. Take off your "tech man" glasses and start using your Tech brains.
