Key post game press conference

You wouldn't be the only one..

On one hand I feel bad that Key is faced with the task of having to eek out wins from players filled to the brim of the culture GC left behind, but on the other hand he has been here the entire time GC was. He knew full well what the culture was and what the attitude of the players are. The next coach will have to sift these players for the salvageable gems, rid the culture, tap the portal to fill in the holes. Not to mention install a new culture, etc. Easier said than done. Thanks to GC and this culture, this is harder to transition out of than the TO. I'm looking forward to the day we announce the beginning of this.
:bfd:

At this point all this jockeying for rhetorical position is like dung beetles jostling for the best spot on a turd.

I don't care anymore if I can come up with the "right" analysis about any of this öööö.

Just start over...again.

I think you need to listen to the post game presser. He’s either throwing the kid under the bus as part of this grand week to week leave our opponents guessing scheme or he was medically cleared and wouldn’t go in.
Based on my observation of the presser, Key didn’t throw anyone under the bus, even though he had every opportunity to do so.

It's wild how naive people are being about this situation. Clearly, Sims has quit but wants to remain a 'member' of the team for whatever reasons he has. Key likely wants to kick him off, but there's some sort of external/political pressure to play along with the situation. Bizarre scenario.
This is probably the truth, but what I want to know is why Sims wants to dress out in full pads and stand on the sidelines.

The cupboard was pretty low when Key took over; but with the last of CPJ's players leaving, namely Carpenter, this cupboard will be bare. Make no mistake though, this is not as much Key's fault as it is Collins and the Juice Crew.
GC has proved to be the ultimate snake oil salesman. It has become abundantly clear he could not identify talent or develop players in his tenure. I give Key credit here during the transition. We saw a spark in the locker room and I feel most players bar a few bad apples have really played hard under him.

I don't understand the Sims situation at all. You are given a world class education and a free meal ticket in exchange for playing football when the coach calls your number. The game is bigger than yourself. As a QB and team leader you set the tone for those around you - leaders lead. Unless there was significant risk of re-aggravating his foot I don't see how any coach would want this in their locker room.

It could be that he's cleared, but to sims it doesn't feel right still. Maybe the throwing motion feels off, maybe the fear of injury, maybe the yips,... Hard to say. If he doesn't have his game face on he shouldn't play.

It could also be that he has to mentally adjust after having lost the starting spot. It sounds like he made the wrong choice yesterday, but the big question is whether he fixes it tomorrow. Does he leave the team or does he stay and put the team first?
If what you say was the case, then why is he even dressed and listed as "emergency QB"?

He was answering 2 separate, multi-part questions from reporters asking directly about why Jeff Sims didn't go into the game, LOL. How the hell do you suggest he do that any more subtly than he did?
“Due to injury he was behind Gibson on the depth chart tonight.”

A reporter directly asked him "Was Sims cleared to play?"

What non-ambiguous answer that wouldn't call out Sims do you think he should have given to that question?
“Due to injury he was behind Gibson on the depth chart tonight.” Pretty clear and simple.

Broad assumptions based on a lot of speculation.

You guys are kinda sad with your need to crucify players to deal with your frustration as a fan. Your frustration today was made unavoidable when Collins and crew were hired.
Maybe the first intelligent thing I've read that you posted here.

I’m done “respecting the players” they make it clear how they feel about those outside their fraternity on a regular basis. There is very little love for the people who made college football what it is so that it could be enjoyed by these prima donnas. Namely the alumni of the schools and the schools themselves. In fact many of them feel as though they are modern day slaves. It sucks.

It’s not the same game I grew up with. It’s a new era no doubt and football in general is less enjoyable with the changes that have come over the last decade. True of many other things in the world also but that’s a different rabbit hole altogether. Gotta change with the times or live in the past.

Sounded to me like Key called it like it was, which is pathetic. Pretty weak by Sim. Bye
