Master of Whispers: Collins Gone, Brent ööööing Key is interim are you ööööing kidding me?

it would be a very Tech thing to do to watch Key win 5 games and then say eh öööö it lets just keep him as HC since he's a Tech man
meh. maybe. but @coit will find the fountain of youth before we win 5 games this year.

I’m pissed about it as well, but who else would it be? Promoting a coordinator is too disruptive, and I’m not sure which position coach is even remotely qualified for that level of responsibility.
I don’t get the whole promoting a coordinator is disruptive thing. CPJ called plays and managed the team for 10 years. Other coaches do it too. To me this sounds like another bullshit excuse.

Sure, if he'll make the same as HC as he does right now.

If he can turn around this thing we call a football team and win 5 more games, he deserves the HC position for at least a few years - no big buyouts though!! I don't see the team winning 5 more games though.

Yeah, wouldn't want to disrupt the groove they got going right?

So, fwiw, I think this actually happens. I'm not getting great info anymore, but Brent is good friends with several influential alumni and is already assistant head coach. On top of that, Thacker is toxic and promoting Chip isn't seen as a good option considering how much work is still to be done on offense and the lack of results so far. This was even discussed when we hired the Florida guy as that being the plan if things went bad. Even more, Brent could potentially win 4 games against the remaining schedule which might be enough to justify a permanent hire if the terms are right and we don't have an AD in place in time.

Ain't even October and you're telling horror stories.

If Todd is able to dig his heels in and really Pepper this situation up like he's trying to do, then we might not have a new AD in place by the end of the season so this would be a positive, in that instance. Have to win at least 4 though.

I don't see the positive. What you're describing is "if we're in a really terrible position either way, we could maybe make another bad decision too". If you're implying you don't trust some non-AD committee to hire a new coach, why would you trust them to get "the right terms" with a hypothetical contract for Key as HC?

So who the heck is going to put the training wheels back on Thacker? He needs to go and promote Tillman or somebody.
