Media reporting

This is back to the original point folks have been trying to get across... no that should not be the conversation right now. That was the conversation we had at the end of last season. No changes were made at HC but he was pretty much forced to make some staff changes and then had to replace some guys leaving. So now give these new guys this season to see if we have a net positive and if not, then it's time to start those conversations.
To be fair, It’s important not to lose sight of how ALL TIME, HISTORICALLY BAD we have been under Geoff Collins. So yes we should support the players and the new coaches, but what evidence do we have that this upcoming season will be any different than the last three years or until we make a change at HC?

FWIW, the people "in the know" that have "the power" already have a short list or will be making a shortlist pretty soon of potential HC & AD if they have to go that way. I mean people do not get fired without knowing that have interested candidates to choose from. So why does talking about potential HC hurt things?

Agree it shouldn't be CPJ vs. CGC. However the conversation should be "Should CGC still be here? Once he is gone who should be the next coach?"

I think some will pine for Jeff Monken/Ken N/BrianB. I am on the fence with that, as I think we might want to look at younger guys like Jamey Chadwell.
Definitely a 'young guy.' An up and comer. That's the way forward.

You don't. You also don't have any evidence that it will be the same. Have you never heard the phrase, "that's why they play the games."?? Every coach that started out bad didn't stay bad. Every coach that started out good didn't stay good.

No crap. They should. They should be having the conversations and the "what if's?" But you aren't even treating it as a "what if?" Your tone and attitude is that you've already written him off and that projects a lack of support for the program. It's one thing to start a conversation along the lines of, "If things don't get turned around this season, who would you like to see as candidates for HC moving forward?" Starting a thread in June called "21st Head coach of GT" or whatever is a douche move when we still have a coach trying to improve the program. I don't understand how you don't see that.

I can look at Coach Collins Body of work thus far. I can look at all his recruits who have transferred, not just Gibbs. I see a team after three years of the Collin's culture lose the final two games 100-0. How much better would Geoff Collins have to become to only lose those games by a TD or less? How much better would he have to become to start winning more than the 6-7 game standard that O'leary/Gailey/Johnson had set? Let's not talk about the "national Conversation" that he oversold us on. So I can use his body of work this far and see that it's not working, can he win 6 this year, sure, I hope the team does I will go bowling with them, however that is not was sold to the season ticket holders like myself. Its time to support the SA and look for the next HC of the program at the same time!

Sure I agree it's taken longer than typically expected, but if we do improve that much this year, go to a bowl, and generate positive buzz about the program again, then recruiting will also see an uptick again. If you think we make that positive jump and then we still need to go ahead and make a change then you sir are just an idiot. That would only set us back even farther. At this point, we are pretty much one year behind schedule. Where did you honestly think we would be in year 3? Did you think we would be in the national conversation yet? Did you think we would be winning 10 games already? Sure we should have been a 6-7 win team going to a bowl, and most would agree that we underperformed this year. Historically most teams making a change show the biggest improvement between year 2 and 3. They also don't typically have something like COVID to deal with during the middle of that, as well as making as drastic of a change as we did in offensive schemes. Couple all that with the new age of transfer portal and NIL and tell me why isn't it feasable that we are just behind schedule for those reasons?

Then also tell me about all the recruits that transferred, then tell me it wasn't about NIL or "promises made." You think you wouldn't have had that when CPJ was here if there were such a thing as the free transfer and NIL?

Also what coach wouldn't aspire to reach those goals and set them forth to his AA and season ticket holders? Do you want someone that comes in and says "oh I'm going to get us back mediocre and making bowls most years."?

Why would you ask about the press and then turn it into a wins/losses argument?

Collins is better at the press stuff than Johnson. He allows more access, will do more interviews and talks in a modern way and knows how to BS with the radio/TV guys.

I’m not sure this matters. It could help. If Collins could win then the press would be a huge plus. As implied, the press didn’t like Johnson’s style off the field or his offense. It was crazy how much they talked about the offense but they aren’t smart guys and it gave them an angle.

I’ll never understand why when people hate someone they think the only way to discuss that person is to be negative in everything they do. Collins hasn’t put a winning product on the field and that is his first responsibility. I can criticize him for that without thinking he is an awful human being.

Since it's a media thread I'll ask here rather than create a thread.
Was it announced back in April that Georgia Tech incoming freshman kicker Aidan Birr will miss the season with torn ACL?
for some odd reason it showed on AJC about 4 hours ago.....
i can't read it due to the paywall but for those who may have a subscription

So we recruited a kicker, who afterwards blew out his knee. You can't make this stuff up.

Hands down the dumbest öööö I've seen. And only needed the Title to figure that out. I wouldn't be surprised if he started the website and wrote the article. This guy is the worst USED Car salesman...actually maybe the best. I can only hope that after we go 1-6 at home and 2-10 maybe 3-9 on the season, that He and Todd decide to open a dealership. It's not like he can't afford it, he gets a Milly per W
And we thought Kelly was bad. This guy’s worthless.

Oh yeah. I really enjoyed all his “winning” outside of two seasons.

Post 2014, he sucked donkey dick and wasn’t going to get any better.

his worst season was the same as this clown avgs in 3.
He may suck donkey dick but you apparently ride one regularly

how much are tickets to your Tijuana shows?

PJ rarely turned down interviews, be they TV, radio or print. He also spoke at places like the Atlanta Touchdown Club and the Macon Touchdown Club when asked. And he even went back to the Macon club after he retired to speak.
When an interview request was made, PJ did his best to accommodate it.
Hell, I brokered a radio interview for PJ on a sports talk station in the Southeast — the two hosts liked having him on and they kept asking to get him back. PJ obliged them.

Collins was scheduled to speak to the Savannah Quarterback Club the Monday after The Citadel loss. He bailed. Said there was a "scheduling conflict."
Never mind that these things are set up months in advance.
Didn't have much respect for him before that. Had none after.

Collins comes across better because he's trying to sell something. PJ wasn't selling anything.
Finally, the local press has started asking a few hard questions, toward the end of last year. And we saw Collins for who he really is. Thin-skinned.
Then again, maybe we just couldn't see the progress, regardless of if we wanted to.
The ACC Network people lob more softballs than a church league at the rec fields. So don't expect a hard line of questioning from them (such as 'you're 9-25. How do you still have a job?') To wit, Collins during practice on an ACC Network show, in the midst of the 3-7 season, and Eric Mac Lain says, "you're doing a great job, coach!" What f---ing crack pipe was he smoking? Dear God.
Like he had to face any press at Temple. Temple football is an afterthought in the Philadelphia sports media landscape.

What did I miss?
Check out the article link in the first post in this thread. Basically says we probably won’t win much more than 3 games next year (a good chance of that), but that we need to lay off Collins and let him do his magic.

This was such a terrible article. This dude basically stated every obvious criticism about CGC and said “wahh I don’t like that opinion, here’s what I think.”

i gained no additional information from that article

Never fear, Paul Johnson’s personal butt buddy is here to tell us how awesome he is again

This. And we all loved it while he was winning.

I watch replays of the highlights of Tech's big game wins from when Coach Johnson was our coach on YouTube all the time. They are the most recent big game wins I can find. I hope we beat Clemson and Georgia this year and win another major bowl. It would be nice to have some recent highlights like that to watch.

Unfortunately those big game wins stopped coming before he was done coaching

I have a question. Anyone else notice the difference on how the media treat Collins different than they did Paul Johnson? With Johnson it was all about his behavior, his lack ability to recruit, how he blames players... The list can really go on. However; most were, what I would call, negative. However; with Collins, I see more "sunshine and daisies" type reports. Latest being how culture matters more than winning. What complete and utter BS! Call me a negative person, but since when has "culture" grew a fan base? Since when has "culture" awarded you TV deals? What recruit what to play for a team with great "culture", over a winning record? I don't get why Collins continues to get a pass....

I’ve always thought Georgia Tech has an appeal by being in Atlanta. There’s a special feeling under the lights at Bobby Dodd at night. And Atlanta is a much cooler place to play than Athens. Collins has marketed it well. The media appreciates that. It’s marketing appeal that sells.

PJ was a hard ass that demanded respect and performance. And he didn’t give a rats ass what anyone, including the media thought about him. He just wanted to win.
