ND boards.....

Not sure how showing glimpses of a pass rush against a Tulane offense that is among the worst in FBS is a wash against NDs OL because they weigh near the same. I expect we will have a tough time getting pressure on their Kizer without brining the blitz. But I also I'm not as worried about having to play contain against his scrambling as I was with Zaire (Kelly himself said Kizer doesn't have Zaire's running prowess). What I'm looking for is to plug running lanes and see if he can beat us throwing the ball in his first career start against an experienced/talented secondary. Then bring Davis and/or Marcordes in select spots to get some pressure on him to force a few mistakes.

With our offense clicking, BVG's documented troubles against the option, and Zaire out I don't think they can afford to not win the turnover battle. An untimely INT or our inexperienced ABs whiffing some blocks or screwing up their pitch relationship (looking at you Snoddy) could turn this game on end like the Duke game last year. If the turnover battle is even or in our favor (like usual) we really ought to be able to control this team. When's the last time they beat a good team? Does 5-loss LSU count?

Too many of us posting over there. It's more fun to watch them kill eachother. They don't need any help.
All we need to do is give Brian Kelly a camcorder, a scissor lift and a student assistant and he'll take care of the rest.

Hope hope CBK follows this plan.

They have the blueprint :turbonoes:

This is not me saying it's the right way, the wrong way or the only way, But it's my way of dealing with the Triple Option

dnE8BR5.jpg

1.Take Away the Dive

My Defensive End ignores the influence block of the wingback, and in most alignments, the playside AND backside defensive tackle, the playside outside linebacker, and the mike linebacker all jam up the middle to take away the inside dive.

2. Make the quarterback beat you.

Not always, but most of the time, the unblocked defender will take the pitch man, as will the cornerback to the playside. The safeties play a two-deep zone and are not supposed to come up in run support until the quarterback has crossed the line of scrimmage. They have quarterback responsibility along with the late pursuit from the interior of the defense. This means the quarterback will get 3-7 yards more often than not when he keeps So, why do I knowingly let the quarterback chew up yardage?

The quarterback keep has the least likelihood of breaking for a big play.
Good tackling wears the quarterback out, both with pain and mental fatigue.
The QB develops a "memory" in game and starts anticipating a read rather than making a read. we will switch assignments in crucial spots, which forces the QB to either make the wrong read or the defender can crush him and cause a turnover.
3. Force turnovers.

This offense requires precision, and with so many moving parts, fakes, and pitches, turnovers happen.

4. Get a lead.

Late in a game and trailing, Georgia Tech lacks the type of players needed to be dangerous in the drop back passing game. If you can get to the 4th quarter up 2 scores, you can take any option team out of their comfort zone.

:bowrofl:

Justin would win the Heisman from his stats in this one game alone.

"Let's leave the wideouts completely uncovered!"

"What's a counter-option?"

That thread is actually one of the best threads I've seen talking Xs and Os on opposing team boards. It still fails, but at least it's a solid effort.

The truth about defending our offense is you don't need one defensive play call, you need like five, each of the five has to defend the 3O differently, and you need to switch between them so we can't just adjust our blocking schemes once. And each of the five has to also be assignment sound for the rocket, midline, counter, and passes.

VT does that. Nobody else does that, because they don't want to waste two weeks of camp.

ND and their fans will be shocked what this offense looks like with elite athletes. I predict the first quarter to be a blood bath until they get used to the speed at which we execute.

Delete this post in one hour.

That's true, I agree. It's Bud Foster's biggest claim to fame. We should print Beej's post on a piece of paper and put it in their empty trophy case.

It's not a bed defense against the 3-O really. Accounts for all 3 on one side of the field. Of course if CPJ happens to be watching the game they'd be screwed. But hey, what are the odds?

It's the football forum equivalent of reddit looking for the Boston bombers by combing over security tape footage. They don't know what they're doing and they'll look stupid for doing it.

Looks like someone has been to the Kam Chancellor school of option defense. He knows which way the play is going before the snap. Just like.... Uh.... Watch the aback... N stuff...

Exactly -- they take chances (rock, paper, scissors), are aggressive as hell, and have very good personnel.

I hate them, but their D is good.
