New ACC scheduling model

This is better than what it is replacing. Based on longevity as an opponent, I’d rather have Duke over WF, but it’s not that big of a deal. I don’t like Louisville at all, would rather have FSU or UVA.
Agreed, but Wake is an up and comer as compared to Duke. Who knows, maybe we'll be the lower of the 3 unless something drastic happens. They're moving up and we aren't. Louisville is probably doing something "illegal" or really close, Hell at this point I wish we would

Wake and Louisville? I was hoping for FSU, which is always a great game. What about the longtime streak with Duke?

I think I'd rather have UNC or VT among our three permanent dance partners over Wake and Loouhvul.
I am glad it's not Syracuse. Even though it's indoors, anybody wanna make that trip in November to the Cuse? Only if Tully's is still open.
Kinda the same with BC.
However ... if it was BC and if the game time is right, can parlay that with a Celtics/Bruins game. Or if it's September, the Sawx. Or just say f it and go get some lobster rolls.

What....No way, we should have FSU for regional play.

I thought that was true from a "big game" perspective. But, if our three permanent opponents were Clemson, FSU and Miami, I would be complaining that we had a built-in disadvantage in terms of our won-loss record. The sad truth is that the 14 team ACC is not a very attractive conference to me, regardless of how the schedule is designed. But, considering how we've been lately, we're lucky to be in any Power Five conference. If we get good enough to beat Clemson and Georgia, all our games ought to be enjoyable to me.

So who do we play in the Benz in 2025? L'ville or the Canes? I believe the rest has been scheduled... I have Clemson this year, 2023 L'ville, 2024 ND, and 2025 is empty correct?

I wish we would quit playing games in the bright red Georgia dome. Grant Field is where we should play all our home games, in my opinion. But, I know Tech traditions that mean a lot to me just don't mean that much to many other people. I just hope Tech gets back to playing sound football and competing for championships, I'll
You people seriously think a schedule that gives us a home conference slate of BC, UNC, Syracuse and Louisville is great? This is bad. I'd say this gives us an opportunity to up our non-conference scheduling but too many of our fans are whining about playing Ole Miss.

We absolutely got shafted drawing Louisville and Wake Forest, two programs we have no real history or tradition and no real interest in those games will ever be created. Gross. Indefensible really.

I don't even recognize college football fans anymore it seems

I wrote this on other boards, but it's still how I feel.

I am fine with doing away with divisions, but I still would rather have no locked in pairings. It isn't competitively balanced. For example, 10 teams avoid Clemson every other year while we get them every year. That's a competitive disadvantage.

Rotate 5 teams out of your conference schedule each year and play the remaining 8. Everyone in conference would play each team the same number of times (8) in a 13 year cycle, or a bit more (1.23 times to be exact) than once every two years.

If someone is so intent on playing a specific foe every year, they can simply schedule that game as an "out of conference" game (doesn't count in the conference standings) the 5 years in 13 the foe rotates off the conference schedule. UNC did this with Wake last year.

Oh, and as for F$U, their AD was quoted when this topic first came up as saying they did not want Tech to be one of their 3 permanents. They got what they wanted.

Why did FSU's AD say FSU did not want Tech as a permanent rival?

I hate big conferences and miss 10-team ones where you play everyone, but this is the next best thing. Wake and Louisville are random for us, but we really don't have an ACC rival besides Clemson. Maybe VT from years of both winning the Coastal, but at least neither Wake or UL are annually great.

I liked the ACC best the way it was when we first joined: Tech, Clemson, Duke, NC, NC State, WF, Va and Md. We played everybody every year in FB and home and away every year in basketball. Everything that changed since then, including adding FSU, was a downgrade in my opinion.

CFB is about traditional rivalries. We lost site of that when we went independent and the ACC is ööööting that bed for us now. Ugh...
Couldn't be farther from the truth. As an independent we still played Duke, UGA and Auburn every year, our three oldest rivalries. We also played Clemson, usually Tulane and another SEC school. Being an independent kept our "traditional" rivlas

I don't see how WF and Louisville are traditional rivals or exciting games for Tech.
What does everyone expect? GT has no intense conference rivalry with any ACC school.

The ones we love pointing to - Clemson and Duke - aren’t reciprocated in the slightest by them. It’s so forced and frankly cringy sounding even when we try to play those series up.

All of this thanks to the worst AD in college history, Bobby Dodd.

Having lived in SC, I can say this isn’t true. Yes, Clemson is at a high point, so they currently have bigger fish to fry, but the absolutely reciprocate the rivalry.

I would much rather have Pitt than Louisville. Even BC would be a better trip.

It really sucks that I’ve had one trip to Boston as a fan since they joined the conference. (2008, Dublin, Covid, right?)

I really like the city of Louisville, but then Bourbon has been in my bloodstream almost constantly since Rock Perdoni was on the field. The only time I've been to a game there, the fans and stadium were great. Having FSU in ATL once every four years is better than it was. Only having Miami fans in ATL once every four years is also an improvement. Duck Fuke! They ruined more than one potentially really good season.

I agree, and it was a good trip. CPJ's first conference win IIRC.

It's hard to believe that FSU didn't want to play us. They have fans in Atlanta, we travel there, it's been a good game, a regional opponent, we generally don't beat them....my guess is the FSU AD already knew who they were getting when he said that.
Actually no, the F$U AD did not. He was expressing what works best for his program. This was still in the concept phase when he said that he did not want Tech as one of the three teams they faced every season.

There were two potential motivators mentioned at the time why F$U would not want Tech as an every year opponent. One was as you said, they have tons of fans in Atlanta so they already have enough ownership in the Atlanta market for recruiting purposes (they don't care if their fans can help with our attendance problem). The other was they were concerned about weakening their strength of schedule as they try to reassert their presence as a national player.

IIWII.
