This would be a great hire. Also, he might be the best interim HC in history, which we'll probably need to utilize sooner rather than later

43 years ago, Bill Curry lamented that our team did not have what he called the "Killer Instinct." This was probably after the loss to Furman (I was there, btw). And he was right. Our guys aren’t playing the game angry. They’re not killers. The closest I’ve seen them to being killers is the Wake Forest game and they collected 150 yards of penalties but they got the job done. That’s both sides of the line btw. Afraid to tackle, afraid to fight for extra yards, just flat out timid all around.
I believe you have to have the fire all week not just when the game starts43 years ago, Bill Curry lamented that our team did not have what he called the "Killer Instinct." This was probably after the loss to Furman (I was there, btw). And he was right.
I have to admit that I have not played the game but can't help but wonder how you play football and not have it? Its not like we are trying to turn a bunch of flower-picking pacifists into killing machines - they are already football players for god's sake.
If anything, seems we'd have to be calming people down. Maybe somebody should test the gatorade mix for sedatives. In particular, one that takes approximately one-half of football to kick in.

Mind boggling that Alabama hired him. Don't think he had ever beaten Auburn as a coach. Couldn't beat them at Alabama either.43 years ago, Bill Curry lamented that our team did not have what he called the "Killer Instinct." This was probably after the loss to Furman (I was there, btw). …you got any more of that eligibility?I played defense for my high school soccer team and I used to collect red cards, tibias and fibulas as trophies. The opponents used to call me the Butcher of Uskudar. Nobody went down for a flop on my side of the field because if they were down that means they had to be carted out. I wish I had the opportunity to play football.
Interesting point. Over the years, my understanding of that event has changed a few times.Mind boggling that Alabama hired him. Don't think he had ever beaten Auburn as a coach. Couldn't beat them at Alabama either.
4. Both 1 & 3Interesting point. Over the years, my understanding of that event has changed a few times.
1. At the time: Curry left us for greener pastures. Stabbed Tech in the back. We put up with his on-the-job training and this is what we get. Me: Bitter. Angry
2. A few years after Dodd passed away: Dodd kind of gave up on Tech and sent his star pupil to a place with no ceiling where he could achieve success that he couldn’t achieve here. Ok, so Dodd was torn between loyalty to Tech and loyalty to Curry. Fine. Me: Not bitter, sympathetic. Mildly perplexed.
3. Last few years: Dodd knew Curry wasn’t a good coach and recommended him to Bama to give Tech a shot at replacing him with a coach who could return Tech to greatness. And at the same time, saddle his old nemises with a coach who, even at Bama, would never be successful in the long run. Me: Dodd was awesome!
Interesting. Never really gave much thought to the story about Rice calling Ross as he was halfway up the steps of a plane on his way to Buffalo to coach the Bills.4. Both 1 & 3
And Homer Rice probably encouraged Alabama to "steal" Curry.
