Official argue about the old coach thread

You are delusional if you think we beat Clemson this year had CPJ stayed, we likely don't beat Duke either because we never jump out to a lead because we don't throw swing passes like that with CPJ and we don't have Gibbs playing RB.

With the Portal and not having to sit out due to CV19-- if CPJ stays maybe the entire BBack depth chart transfers out of GT.

We'd be 2 - 5 at this point and maybe 1-6 , I'm not sure if CPJ is still here that NIL don't treat us like MTSU did.
The only years CPJ did extremely poorly were marred by significant injury problems. He had an 11 year track record here that goes entirely against what you say.

you’re very long winded and not too bright.

First you complained that cpj's high point was a top 10 finish with a win over the mutts, boat racing our opponent in the orange bowl and coming close to the playoffs. You think gailey was finally going to have a season on par with cpjs 2 best despite gailey squandering generational talent. Now you think that we would've lost more games than now because cpj who statistically always had good offenses, would've had a worse offense and defense than we have now?

I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or retarded.

If he had been able to put up more than 6 points in the ACC Championship Game against Wake Forest with Calvin Johnson and Tashard Choice that probably would've been enough too.
Oh my that was a painful game to watch.

CGC is 9-20 against the weakest ACC since O’Leary was on the Flats. He’ll need to go 8-5 for 9 straight years to get up to the winning percentage of Gomer and CPJ. Think about that for a moment.

I see a lot of “if’s” being thrown about to further agendas. The past happened as it did and what is happening now is actually happening. Hopefully, it improves.

List the names of the Guys that are now Playing at Wofford & Furman that CPJ would've signed over the last 3 years that would be good enough to beat Clemson this year as well as Duke.

If CPJ stays and is in year 14 this Roster looks totally different and much worse in overall Talent, for all we know with the CV19 exception mass numbers of Def guys might have transferred out looking for greener pastures.

You think CPJ could win those games with a CGC Recruited roster rather than CPJ winning in Yr14 with his own Guys, when he up & quit things were getting bad really fast recruiting wise

For all you Guys that love CPJ so much why has no other P5 Program like LSU or USCw not contacted him about their job openings?

With all the Talent in SoCal ,CPJ would be in the CFP every year with his Offensive Genius and with a Ted Roof or a Nate Woody running the defense, isn't this what the Fanboyz would always say if CPJ got hired in the SEC?

Amazing that such a genius coach doesn't draw attention from other ADs in CFB that matches the way the Fanboyz around here feel about him.

Because he’s retired.

If Johnson had only branded with 404 and ATL and played rap music louder at practice and told those jumping offsides he loved them more and drank from a waffle house cup while at his pressers and had money downs and got himself into the weight room more and ditched the coaching shirts for shorter sleeves and skinny pants, well he might have showed how much he cared and gotten a few more years. Oh well, he lived and learned....

We didn’t have a portal problem under CPJ. He’d score 17+ on this version of Clemson. Our defense would be no worse than this year’s version.

I get that you don’t like CPJ. But he would have been floating around 6 wins per year the past three years. That’s not a dig at CGC who is trying to change the roster from option players.

In an effort to clean up all football threads going forward, keep arguments about the old coach here.

Feel free to argue about the current staff elsewhere.

It is extremely obvious and very clear by now that Paul Johnson was a much better football coach than Jeff Collins.
Now that’s not to say that Collins may have some terrific recruiting classes that might offset his relative inexperience and ineptitude compared to Paul Johnson—but he is certainly going to have to replace some assistant coaches with brighter minds.
In short summary Collins it’s going to need quite a bit more talent to win as much as Johnson did with less talent.

That's a good point. Imagine how bad the game would have been Saturday if our defensive talent was worse. They were the only thing keeping us in it!

No argument here that Johnson was a better field coach. The problem for him is that there is much more to being head coach than calling plays. His recruiting and roster management were atrocious. Already behind the 8 ball due to scheme and made worse by a lack of focus. I have no doubt Johnson could take another team’s roster and win 8 games. His problem was that his own rosters were catching up to him.

That and, relatedly, he seemed to be really against adapting to changing times. The great coaches adapt (not necessarily abandon) their schemes to keep up with the changing game, and he seemed very reticent to do or even try that.

We won 9 games as recently as 2016 with Paul Johnson’s roster. His last year was 2018 and we still went 7-6.
