Official Geoff Collins Fired Watch Party Thread

All that $$$ for the north deck and with exception to one game every other year, and maybe one or two others, it basically sits vacant with metal benches absorbing sunshine, rain, and JJ’s tears.
I remember sitting in the old north stands for the 99 Clemson game. The seats were great. Tech should have rebuilt something similar with an aesthetic entrance from Bobby Dodd Way and also done the much needed renovation of the east stands. The monstrosity that was built was unnecessary and created a supply glut that ended up hurting season tickets sales (along with the genius idea to öööö everyone’s AT points and go a PSL system). There’s no reason to buy season tickets when you know that tickets are available for most every game for $1 on stubhub.

This is how Tech alumni fix problems:

Problem: We don’t have enough money to hire a competent coaching staff.
Solution: Let’s gamble on an unproven head coach and some Tech men.
Problem: Unproven head coach and Tech men ööööed the program worse.
Solution: Let’s give less money to the program until it’s fixed.

No, we're withholding money until a change is made. Plenty of boosters withheld money until G**** C****** was hired but he's been worse in every measurable way than his predecessor (unless you hate the 3/o) so nothing was "fixed". If they're going to hold onto a bad decision, why should we fund it?

Because withholding money would only work with a competent AD. Like someone who could have seen the drop in season ticket sales this year as a reason enough to fire him. Unless you’re a big donor and can enact change with one phone call nobody’s gonna listen to you giving $250 to Tech fund. Not unless all that small money is pooled and represented in one voice.

A competent AD would've seen this as a disaster before now. His job is to see the iceberg before we hit it, not after we're filling the life boats.

Sorry, to clarify, I consider the drop in sales to be loading the life boats. The iceberg was Collins 2nd year. The warnings was his 1st year.
Sure let’s play the I saw it earlier game. Year 2 is lifeboats. Competent AD wouldn’t have hired Collins.

I'll never forget the verbal beat downs I took on this board after the loss to The Citadel when I sounded the alarm. There was some real butthurt that day.

I'll tooy my own horn a little, even if I had some misses :)

Pro set? Yikes... Is he going to bring back pat nix?

I dont think our rebuild is equivalent to the death penalty. Feels more like we hired bill lewis.

We don’t get cost savings until 01/01/23.

If we don’t fire him this week, we’re obviously ööööed. There’s no point in waiting - candidates are scooped up and recruiting is absolutely wasted.

The mid December dates rumored around these parts for some time now only apply for HIS buyout (if he were to leave). Tech’s on the hook based on calendar year.

I’m stunned at this contract. Stunned.

Have they not said anything? Even Colorado's AD sent a letter apologizing for their crappy start. Silence is deafening.

How could one school hire three incompetent AD's like Brainless, MBob and TStan?

Thanks for linking this.

So, since this year is prorated and he has basically 3 months left, if we fired him now we would owe him approximately $11.3 million. If we wait until January 1st, we owe him $7.2 million.

At this point, the cost of firing him now is $4.1 million.

Whelp...

Imagine being the negotiator who sees a December date being included for the other side and thinks "Eh, first day of the new year is a nice round number, let's go with that on our side."

I edited my numbers above to add in the $200,000 apparel portion I forgot. Broke my tree fiddy joke... Sad

You gotta be ööööing kidding me.

I think I found our smoking gun in the contract. Here's the clause he is clearly violating, and we should be able to fire him for cause:
