Official post-game bitch session

This can't be a good sign...

What do you mean? A player complimenting their DC is a bad sign?

The defense played great, definitely a silver lining of the game.

Wtf were our receivers doing?
In my view, it was the game changer - the constant dropping of balls on key plays. That and the first time I thought of AJ Suggs at QB. Pyron is good in short yardage situations, but that's it, and that is running on short yardage plays.

Oops... my screenshot cut off the "the defense did their part" line. I don't like seeing an offense vs defense on the team. Probably a nitpick, but that's how I interpreted it vs just a compliment to the DC. Too many outspoken on social media DBs in recent Tech history is probably biasing me there.

This is who we are. Everyone needs to accept it. We can go the unique route with coaches like we did with Johnson or we can go the inexperienced route and hope, like we are currently doing with Key. I had no problem with Johnson and have little issues with Key right now. If we get to year 4 and his team is still false starting out of commercial breaks and our defense still can’t get set or we are still burning timeouts in the 1st quarter then it will be time to move on. We simply can’t afford a tried and true coach like Ross today. And I hate retread types. I’d rather go innovative and hope - there are plenty of those out there - see Vandy’s coach,

I’m pulling for Key big time but he has to take action and not just say words about accountability. From where I sit there is very little accountability for in game mistakes by players which leads to soft players. If a Paul Johnson, Nick Saban, or Urban Meyer were our coach today they could have made a documentary about our sideline because those coaches would have been all over the players and we’d probably have a few guys transferring out. Instead, we false start or fall down a yard short of the marker and nothing - just send out the punter for the 9th time. Meanwhile we just got beat rather easily by a below average VT team.
That fall down before the marker killed me. Big TE has to know how far he needed to go to secure the 1st down, instead he allowed himself to get tackled short instead of diving to secure it... situational awareness, or maybe inexperienced reps... either way it should have been a 1st

Our offense was bad… but we outgained VT by 120 yds. We absolutely should have scored more points and them less.

As good as our defense was, I think VT was a perfect 3/3 TDs when they got inside the redzone. That’s an unacceptable stat. I was impressed that VT only threw for 130 yds and literally around 50 yds came from trick plays. It could have been our best defensive performance of the season.

Even a halfway competent effort at QB should have been a W. King would have easily won, and potentially Philo for the full game would have won.

I think Philo was responsible for about 1/3 of our yardage just in a few series, IIRC. Seems whe we had 300 yards, Philo had 95.

What does out gaining your opponent have to do with anything if you don’t score?

Don’t try and spin this as the D (3/3 TD) having any part in the loss yesterday. The O never threatened after it was 14-6, until VT essentially put the game away in the 3rd quarter. Had the O managed to do anything, those other scoring drives by VT may never have happened.

GT drive log post VT going up 14-6 until the game was put away at 21-6.

3 plays, -3 yards - Punt.
3 plays, 1 yard - Punt.
3 plays, 8 yards - Punt.
3 plays, 1 yard - Punt.
2 plays, 5 yards - INT (after GT blocked the FG). Score still 14-6.

5 possessions when down 14-6 yielded a grand total of 12 yards, and an INT. The INT essentially was all VT needed to start the game ending TD drive.

That is one gross post. True, but gross. I kinda got numb during those series but I didn’t break anything. I love our modern offense from shotgun. We should have 5 star punters knocking down our door.

Was not impressed at all with VT. Nor was I impressed with Drones. He's overrated.
With that out of the way, the defense did put in a very good effort. Aside from one run - and some missed tackles early - they did a standout job on keeping Tuten bottled up and in getting pressure on Drones.
Aside from a string of line drive punts, special teams weren't an outright disaster, for once. They were OK.
Offense ... frankly, I don't think it would have mattered who started at QB. We couldn't run the ball. Receivers couldn't catch. Yes, Philo did some good things. But how many times did VT try to turn up the heat on him? I need to rewatch the game to see how difficult they tried to make things for him. We still didn't score in his five drives.
I've said it for a long time - our margin for error is very slim. And the reasons for that were on display Saturday.

We got two weeks to fix a lot of things. Two weeks to get some people healed up and two weeks to see if we can put together better gameplans on offense.

I can’t really think of any scenario where Pyron is showing something better than Philo in practice, and Philo has some games to play without burning his redshirt. This feels like loyalty cost us a must-win game.
He needs to start next game unless King comes back. He needs more reps at full speed.

So give some criteria and name some coaches who are?

I mean, people on here say Dabo isn’t (despite proving otherwise) along with a few other HC’s from common opponents GT plays. Ya know, because they have every resource and all.
Dabo got help

I agree, but at least they threw some to the TE. That seems to be a rarity

Faulkner killed our first drive by calling that damn bubble screen that, as usual, went nowhere. Pyron had actually taken us down the field pretty well at that point, but that one play killed it.

Shanahan loses the field position game. Every game.
