Official Spring Game Thread

Are they teaching Sims to do the happy feet to stay ready to run or was he afraid of the cardboard pass rush?

My takeaway...Back up QB looked pretty good. He threw some nice balls.

Defense needs a lot of work if we are going to be bowl eligible...

I know the backup QB is always the most popular guy on the team, and maybe he was going against the second string D, but he did throw some nicer looking balls than Sims, who had some bad misses and near-picks.

We seem to have solved the low snap issue and replaced it with a high snap issue - I counted 4 that the QB lost over his head or nearly so. Also a lot of snaps to the QB’s left that he had to corral and bring back for a quick handoff to the right.

McCollum stood out at WR to me. Tight ends didn’t do much other than pre snap motion - maybe one catch and some drops? I wasn’t watching that closely.

Didn’t really see anything from the D that made me pay particular attention.

Having music playing the whole time got kind of annoying.

Thought the crowd was better than I would have expected. Lots of high school kids.

Had some high school coach behind me absolutely killing BDS - said it was the worst stadium he’d ever seen, and that we need to drop $50M on it and start over.

Drove down there with my wife. Parked in Klaus, about a mile away. Walked by the gay frat party (this is a thing? I'm so old). Discover that the West Stands are closed (why?). Sit in the North stands. Then discover that this isn't a game, this isn't a scrimmage, this is barely even drills. Most of the time there's nothing football-ish going on. Left after about 5 min. What the hell was that? My disenchantment with Tech football does not abate.

Thank you for suffering through. I'm not sure I'd ever go ITP again after such an experience.

Backup QB (Gibson) looked better that Sims. I got a chance to speak to him afterwards, and he was a clean-cut looking, very friendly kid. I was impressed.

The kickers were on the sideline right in front of me, and they all looked barely old enough to be in HS, much less in college. Here is a picture of the top two, Stewart and Kelley. Stewart kicked a 40+ yard FG tonight.

I didn't notice a gay frat party, but there was one frat house with a rainbow flag in one of the windows, and there was a BIG rainbow flag on some large building on the other side of the baseball field. Boy, times sure have changed at Tech.

I went, along with 4 other friends. I was actually pleasantly surprised and TBH it was better than the usual spring game format in my opinion and that of my buds who were there as well.

Most people who were looking for a reason to bitch will find a reason to bitch but all of the people around us enjoyed it and I heard a few of the recruits in front us (we sat in CL4 club level seats lower down) who seemed to be impressed as well.

Offense definitely looked more like they had a clue and the defensive secondary was much improved. They were trying to get the kids some reps but not show Clemson and the first teams too much of the offense (per Quinlan's report after the game and I would concur).

I also note that the vast majority of the people bitching weren't there. So.....

There had been some sort of demonstration earlier in the day over by the student athletic center which was holding some women's swim meet. There was a large group protesting out front FOR protecting women's sports. There was a smaller group of alphabets nearby waving their rainbows. Camera crews were there but not News crews, so I assume they were doing this as part of some documentary dealing with Trans men wanting to compete against women.

That was the most intelligent decision made by Tech in years. The cameras are, other than on-the-field cameras, in the west stands, so putting everybody in the east stands at least made it look like there was a decent crowd there.

Good idea in theory, although I think there were more people on the field and in the north than in the east overall.

I thought that the secondary looked much better. I know we weren’t blitzing on purpose but I think our biggest issue may still be the ability to create a pass rush with just the down linemen. I was happy to see that we didn’t have a single instance where the defensive backs just lost a receiver and left him to run wide open….which happened multiple times per game last year.

Until the east gets shade, it is brutal. Also, letting folks in through the north makes it kind of difficult to fill the east. Add in that there are rails between the chair backs and the rest of the east and not really a good way to get through without climbing over a rail just makes it a hassle

Reminds me of a Miami noon kickoff a few years back. I had left my hat in the truck and could feel my bald head burning by the 2Q in my 222 E seat. I actually went to the concessions, commandeered on of those cardboard drink trays, and made a hat out of it. UGA grad engineering at its best
