OFFICIAL UCF game week discussion thread

Plus, with 10 opting out, that means fewer players to simulate the opposition in practice.

Was a starter in 2019. How many would have been starters this season?
I think we can beat them. Tulsa beat them iirc. Pitt beat them. We are much better than what lined up last season. Their QB threw for a ton of yards, but he is only 5'11" and 185
I read somewhere that 1 offensive starter and 2 defensive starters were in that 10. Could be wrong.

Also, how many Jucos and transfers does UCF take? Are they basically following the 90's and 00's Kansas State blueprint of taking the castoffs into the commuter school?

That Otis Anderson does not strike me as anyone's castoff. He may be the key. Stop him as he is more of an all purpose back and we have a good chance of winning. He is not that big at 174lbs but he can really move and he is a threat running, receiving and returning kicks.

The OJ Anderson I remember was a big SOB

Its about coaching.

give us the coaching numbers please.

Coaching numbers? Considering that UCF's best class was ranked 55th then their coaching numbers must be pretty good. FSU's worst class at #22 just this past year is better than ours or UCF's best class. But we whipped them and it could have been worse.

Yes but look at Miami’s recruiting rankings, and we beat them like a red headed step child almost every year. Even when we finish 3-9. Coaching matters a lot. Our boys can’t rest on their laurels for this one.

The FSU 2016 class was ranked #2 in the country and most of them are probably gone already. A pity that.

I suspect UCF is a bit over-rated (#13 Coaches/#14 AP). They had 10 players opt out, and they are not the kind of factory program that just reloads every year with great talent depth. Each season can be unpredictable based on how all the planets line up for them. I'm also glad we aren't playing a cupcake for our OOC game. It would be a let down after last week if we played Gardner Webb this week. Need to squeeze some fresh juice.

They might be but they have 8 returning starters on both sides of the ball but thank goodness that guy they had last year, Davis, at receiver is not one of them. Last year they averaged over 500 yards of total offense a game good enough to score about 42 points a game. Both of those figures were first in the AAC. That said, Cincy beat them by slowing the game down and making them drive the length of the field. We can do the same with Mason running the ball. Somehow they lost to a very ordinary Tulsa team in a nail biter. They also lost to Pitt on a last minute trick play.

We are 4-8 vs Miami since Gailey was canned.
I think it is fairer to say they have beaten us pretty soundly most years but given the disparity in recruiting , Miami should have been favored in just about every game. There is no telling what Miami will do this year but talent is not an issue with them....it never is.

So, which team was GOL's favorite to coach? GT, UCF, or ND? Boom, there's your answer. But what, if anything, is the hidden question? I think ND wins this one going away. I hate picking the Irish, but I'm having a hard time not taking them AND the points, even if UCFs QB and RB are rated "A" by trustworthy sources. Take that to the bank and cash it fast.

Watched the UCF/Pitt game today. Some thoughts...

- UCF is small but fast at seemingly every position. QB is under 6’0” but shifty. Main RB looks like a skinnier Sproles. WRs are not imposing at all but all seem capable of going deep.

- UCF offense is extremely up tempo and is constantly trying to catch the defense subbing. Not sure how CGC will approach this given his desire to rotate bodies on defense so often.

- UCF offense is high event. Seemed to give up a 5 yard sack/TFL or connect on a go route every other play. DBs will be tested deep. Which I’m okay with.

- Pitt’s offense looked similar to what we did to FSU. And moved the ball pretty well. I like our WRs against the UCF DBs I saw in this game.

- Their return game is scary. Lot of speed. We can’t be ööööing around on kicks.

I saw that game also. They are a dangerous team but maybe beatable if we can keep the ball on drives and don't screw-up STs much (I know,a dream).
Not being a real home game hurts alot.Play poorly once more and we could get a ass-kicking.
