Patenaude's Offense

I appreciate Walton posting something of value in this thread. Otherwise, a lot of uninformed Betas shitting on an offense that they have never seen in a game. We wont be as efficient offensively as CPJ...we will be better defensively and on special teams. Deal with it.

Also, teams like Bama and UGA are not highly innovative offensively....but they have talent in spades. I want to get closer to that personally. Run tried and true offensive principles with elite athletes rotating all over the field seems to work very well. CGC will get us closer to that point than CPJ ever did because he appears to realize that recruiting (and all of the other stuff that goes into running a program) is just as important as the tactical gameday coaching.
 
I’m wait and see. I don’t expect anything lights out. But if he can play efficiently like Wake did 2 years ago, I’ll be happy.

Otherwise, I’ll just wish we had hired the jackass/solid oc Matt Canada who gave Clemson fits at Pitt and NCSt.
 
I'll miss the thrill of the option. When executed well it was a joy to watch, especially when the other fanbase thought they had a stop and we saw what they didn't. When we saw the wingback execute his block and there was just 40 yards of green between Robby Godhigh and a TD, it was special.

That said, I'm looking forward to learning the ins and outs of the new system. I hope it's got lots of moving parts and isn't just a vanilla spread.

The only creative bit I've heard is that he sometimes rolls his slot receiver into the backfield as a RB. Which isn't particularly unusual either honestly.

The death of the death march will make me a bit sad, quite honestly. Loved that death march.

Lots of comments from players about how much more they're learning from the new OL coach, players talking about how the former ST coach didn't care about ST, etc. I was a huge CPJ fan and really enjoy the option, but I don't think we taught our players well at all, especially in recent years.

Who's shitting on the offense? I said we'll take a step back in the X's and O's department, but that's not earth-shattering news. We had one of the best offensive minds in college football so any replacement should be expected to be a downgrade. That being said, we'll probably be better in just about every other area, as you pointed out yourself, so we'll have to see exactly how that shakes out.

The best offensive mind in college football was under .500 for the last 4 years - a worse record than powerhouse Wake Forest. Care to revisit your statement?

You'd expect that from the OL given the scheme change. I'm surprised to hear that about ST though. I was also frustrated at out inability to clean up execution problems.

Thank goodness the post you responded to said " one of the best".

Because when it comes to offensive minds I would have to vote for Mouse Davis, Emory Ballard, Mike Leach, Chris Petersen, and Steve Spuurier way more than our great mind IF there was only one choice.
