Paul Johnson/Ted Roof

.
Ahhhh. The old FOC argument. And there is something to be said for that. But we aren't going to be looking to hire Chip Kelly, or Jon Gruden, or Dan Mullen, or Brent Venables. And we haven't had five coaches in the last eleven years. But you are wrong, it is very much accepting mediocrity. Paul Johnson is better than Chan Gailey, but only incrementally. Both are mediocre. CPJ gets the raw deal of the new playoff system that he will never participate in. He has the disadvantage of competing against better coaches throughout the conference as the league continues to upgrade that position and we stand pat.
Since I'm getting old, someone please remind me of the Orange Bowls that Gailey took us to.

I'm a pretty big GT football fan, and if I saw Tech trying to get a major approved where the main purpose was to have a place to stash SAs I would do anything in my power to stop it from happening.

Obviously I don't have any influence over those decisions, but it would surprise me if GT officials who do have that type of influence don't feel the same way.

Is that Elizabeth Warren?

Oh yea of little Bobby Dodd.

That was the guy that de-giantized us, as giants are defined commonly today. The problem with describing yourself as a "sleeping" giant is that you can simply "awaken", maybe with the right coach or player, and then suddenly begin wielding one's latent giant powers. We would absolutely have to build to become a giant as compared to the modern landscape of CFB, and it's unlikely that our ascent would be sudden. Not saying it's impossible, but there's an important distinction between the two scenarios.

I don't think going private is a very good idea and certainly Tech shouldn't consider it based on football.

What we fail to realize is that there is no such thing as college football anymore, where students play each other. Most schools now sponsor a semiprofessional football team. The farce of making these players "students: has been noted over and over again, UNC's you don't have to go to class, Jawja's WR not being able to read till he joined the ladies book club, etc.

I think we outsmart ourselves more than the BOR hurts us, although they do intend to hurt us. All the hillnerds have been told that it would devalue their degree if we had a jock major and its probably a gagger who convinced them of it. Pick an existing major and dumb it down to ridiculous as to requirements and put all the jocks in that major. If the BOR objects, RAISE HOLY MORTAL HELL THAT THE BOR IS CONTROLLING US IN THE NATIONAL MEDIA, NCAA, ESPN, ETC. You got to confront the bully if you want to beat the bully.

What we fail to realize is that — if you're a cynic, as you appear to be — there has never been such thing as college football, where students play each other. Most schools have always sponsored a semiprofessional football team. The issue of players getting paid, missing classes, and other special benefits has been around as long as the game has attracted thousands of interested observers. The NCAA was created in large part to deal with the issue, and they are a lot more aggressive about little things than they ever were in the past. GT has battled against it and with it (and succumbed to it?) for many many decades. Here's a quote from the 1932 Blueprint:
The stands were crowded. Tech-Georgia and the championship at stake... the third quarter and the score nothing to nothing. Two minutes to play and the ball at midfield. A play and the mighty Gallapoway has the ball! Looks like we will lose. He has a clear field... he passes the coaches' bench — and sits down. The whistle blows and the game is over: score 0-0.
As the player passed the bench, he asked for a raise, it was revealed in an interview after the game. The coach, it is said, refused. The result being that Alumni are looking for a new coach.

Yeah, we're dead in the coastal.

For our 5th year seniors:
The following coastal teams have won more divisional crowns:

The following coastal teams have been to more BCS/New Years 6 games:

The following teams have faced the Atlantic division champ more times than us:

However, this season sucked.
