PJ

I just don't see the upside of PJ going to Auburn.

First of all, he has a daughter in HS and it's tough enough moving once on a kid, let alone twice in two years. He's also comfortable in GA having coached here before and has a great relationship with the HS coaches here.

Second, he's not going to recruit that much better at Auburn. He'll get a little bit more talent, but we all know recruiting is a crapshoot anyways.

Third, the expectations at Auburn are going to be a lot higher and they will be quick to fire him if he doesn't produce immediate results.

Fourth, year #1 is the most work for a coach and I really don't think he wants to go through all that again so soon.

and University of Miami offensive coordinator Patrick Nix.

:laugher::laugher:

If Lowder is against Gill, the best candidate out there isn't at an established BCS program except for maybe Brian Kelly, then he is a total dumbass. No question about it.

Wait, I don't get this. Are you trying to say that Georgia Tech is a quality coaching job and that people might want to coach and stay here? This goes against everything I've ever heard from everyone in the state of Georgia. :)

Yeah, but Lowder is kinda the king of all toolbags!

Sits on the BOR, I think, so the school president can't say anything. And he dominates the AA. And gives money they can't afford not to get. And he's an asswad!!!

BOR as in Board of Regents, not BarrelORum. Just thought that I'd clear that up. Nobody sits on the Barrel and gets away with it!

Well that explains a lot. I knew Barrel of Rain was into many things, but that is just gross !!

I've decided that interviewing Patrick Nix is a win/win situation. If they go in another direction, then we still get the joy of playing a Miami team with that no talent assclown calling the plays. If they pick him, well, then it will be high comedy over there.

Auburn really, really messed up by firing/running off/whatever Tubs.

I don't know why people were getting so agitated. PJ has been saying since he got here that he wasn't going anywhere. He even said on the radio last week that he wasn't going to Auburn...did ya'll not trust him?

I was never real worried that he would bolt for awwburn after one year with us. The whole "committed to Georgia Tech" thing is what I find reassuring.

I believe that CPJ has integrity, is loyal, etc. I'd never doubt that. I also believe, however, that he's enough of a family man and a career man that he'll entertain other offers if they are substantively better than what he has with us. I just want to make sure we don't do anything that causes him to rethink his "committment to Georgia Tech."

I trust DRad - he'll keep him here - provided, of course, that The Hill is smart enough to keep DRad around :)

It might have been hard to predict this a few years ago -- but how much better has our football program been run than Auburn's?

Gailey was faced with an even bigger uphill struggle than Auburn will have against Saban. We didn't panick and we gave him a chance. He didn't win as much as we'd have liked, but he didn't embarass us and he did upgrade the talent level, finishing off with the best GT recruiting class in two decades.

When we did decide it was time to make a change, it was a clean and honest break. No sneaking off to Louisville, no lying about his resigning when we actually let him go.

Then instead of publicly flailing around and getting turned down publicly by a half dozen coaches, we got our choice of four of the candidates in the country. BIG BIG names and we could have hired any of the four. Look at our candidate list, and compare it to Auburn's. Our candidates are now the ACC COY, the HC of UCLA, and the HC in waiting of the Texas Longhorns and the FSU Seminoles. Auburn fans would KILL to have ANY of them at this point.

We closed by selecting from our four outstanding candidates the best possible coach for GT, if not the best coach in the country period. He's comitted to us, and we to him, and we're going to reward him and keep him here for the long haul to assure our ascendance to major power status again.

All I can do is marvel at the job our AD has done. Thank you, Dan Radakovich!

Also, lets not forget that Gailey continued to help us recruit even after he was let go, to do his best to ensure we didn't lose anyone during the coaching transition.

Lowder's company's stock is trading at about 10% of what it was trading at a couple of years ago. About a $130M hit to his net worth, unless he sold a bunch, which would raise eyebrows at the SEC.

He may not have the juice he used to have.

From what i hear, the SPREAD was working well when Terry Bowden was down there.

The flavor of the day at Auburn is the ole ball coach himself.

I heard a rumor today from a very-well informed Auburn booster that the article linked in the OP is disinformation and that they are going to give CPJ $30 million a year and a private jet so he can keep living in Atlanta but coach Auburn's team.

Everyone MUST read this post. It is very eye-opening to actually realize the types of coaches (those mentioned plus the Fridge and others) that ACTIVELY pursued our job versus what is gong on at Auburn.

Could anyone buy a coach? Yes. For example Oklahoma State could probably buy Saban from Bama if their big money donors felt like grossly overpaying the going rate. So you should never be too smug, but it appears that GT overall is more desireable than Auburn.

Also, think about this...

The entire SEC has a big ego, but when was the last time anyone other than LSU actually hired a HC away from another BCS league?
