That makes me happy. I like the idea of a Tech guy because if he succeeds we might not lose him right away to a factory with more $. But I’d rather not run pro-style.

Why is everyone so scared of losing a coach? We've lost three coaches in the past 100 years to 'better' opportunities – Curry to Alabama, Ross to the NFL, and O'Leary to ND.

The NFL is obviously a totally different situation and only hires college coaches after incredible success (Pete Carroll, Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban). So while I agree we can't ward off the NFL, if they come knocking it's because we've had incredible success. Obviously I would rather have incredible success and lose the coach than not have incredible success and keep the coach.

Alabama and ND, on the other hand, are two of the fix or six richest, most storied and most prestigious programs in the country. It's not a big pool that we need to be scared of stealing our coaches. Our coaches aren't going to get hired away to Arkansas or Arizona or Louisville or whatever. We have plenty of money and plenty of attractions on our own. We talk a lot about trying to make Atlanta attractive to recruits – I can promise you, our coaches wives are much happier living in Vinings than they would be living in Starkville or whatever. They're not under the microscope, better schools for their kids, you name it. You can live a nice life on a coach's salary in Atlanta.

It really is one of the dumber points made by the " a Tech man is a great qualification since he'll never leave" crowd in the fanbase. So what if a young and up coming coach comes here and is doing great enough to be hired away in 3 or 4 years? Means that GT has done quite well and the GT job would be viewed as a place someone can win and make it attractive for the next up and comer.
