Post NCsu game thread

Tech is now 5-0 at Bobby Dodd Stadium this year! To be 7-4, going into the Georgia game, is actually impressive considering how banged up we are. Our players gutted out a victory tonight that they could have easily lost. Our offensive game plan for this game almost got us beat. Coach Key should have realized, in the first half, HK was too injured to be effective. AF proved tonight, if given the opportunity, he is more than capable of leading our offense.

GO JACKETS!

Aaron was AP AF

Thought this same thing, especially since they showed it on the broadcast for both kicks.

First time he did it, I think it was a replay, I said to myself "oh come on, seriously? he's over-thinking it, there's no way that actually helps him, not like the wind is consistently that"

Second time, after the timeout, they showed him doing it again live before the kick, I said to him "you're a fairy and a loser, look at you, you think you're so cool, but you suck and you're gonna miss this kick you ööööing piece of overcompensating to the left stupid moron, boo, ahhhhhh"

Turns out we were both right.

You could see the stuff before the 2nd kick drop almost straight down. The wind definitely slowed during the timeout.

I think most people thought best case scenario for us this year was 7 regular season wins realistically considering how tough our schedule was they had in front of them. Then being banged up at spots thru year and being pretty much 1 dimensional with King for several weeks. All these factors above not hard to see us sitting with a losing record at this point but the team continues to grind it out. If you told me at start of season we are going into UGA game 7-4 with a shot at 8 wins and knocking them out of playoff picture I would be quite pleased on the season.

The first time he did it I thought we were goners. That thing just flew forward like six yards.

Securing a winning season with the schedule we had is a definite step forward for the program. Let's hope this creates more buy in with high end recruits and transfers and we can continue progressing.

That pick in the 4th was a horrendous set of decisions. Why he didn't throw it to his first read is a mystery to me, but after he double clutched that throwing the ball cross body into traffic to a receiver who isn't looking was obviously a mistake.

I think you are being pretty harsh on Philo here. Here's right when he throws it:

The receiver is clearly at his spot and looking for the ball. And while there's certainly traffic, that defender in front is moving the wrong way. Here it is right before we tip the ball:

A very tight throw but on the money and should have been caught. Aggressive, yes, but harsh to put this one on Philo in my opinion.

Look at your image again and see if that's the receiver he should've thrown it to. Also consider the flat route was even more open earlier in the play.

It's telling that his HS teammate doesn't seem to be having the same issues. He's a beat or 3 late on a lot of his throws and isn't taking open sure completions. His completion percentage is consistently too low now. He's got the arm so hopefully that game winning drive settles him down. That pick in the 4th was a horrendous set of decisions. You're ridiculously critical. Go suck an egg and report back

I agree a more conservative throw would have been better.

I'm just saying that "throwing the ball cross body into traffic to a receiver who isn't looking was obviously a mistake" is pretty harsh when the receiver was stationary and looking, and the ball made it through the traffic.

Receiver deserves most of the blame for the pick, though there is also likely a lesson about taking what the D gives you for Philo.

And not close enough to the first down
On the other hand, the other guy has a chance to score and the throw was in there and would be a TD more often than not. Had nothing to do with why the ball was picked

I thought in real time, and still think now, that the correct pass would have been to the TE in the flat. That said, I walked back my criticism of Philo after @andrew pointed this out last night and I watched the replay. I thought he tried to throw it through 3 defenders, and clearly he didn’t. It was aggressive but not wrong.

Hell of an ending to that game. As the eternal football pessimist, I thought for sure they were going to make the FG.

It’s one thing to be a football pessimist as a Tech fan. It’s another thing to write this team off as a “6-6 team with a loser coach” when there’s still 1:30 on the clock and the rock.

I thought the defense had a pretty good night until those last 3 drives

They all count though, especially the last ones
They essentially were responsible for two touchdowns, so...they bailed the team out tonight. And the offense stepped up when they needed to, even though they missed a lot of opportunities

On the video, Singleton takes his eyes off just before to judge where to sit down in the zone. The still shots don't show that.
