Post NCsu game thread

being at the game in upper north i thought the kick was short. just watched replay. holy öööö. he crushed it. but wide left barely. damn.

should be noted that was not there normal FG kicker. they sent out the guy that handles kickoffs.

Kick looked short and wide on TV to me, but at the last second that sucker hooked back and I initially thought it was good

All NC State had to do was go down inside the 5 on their long run, kick a 20 yard FG, and celebrate.
Interesting point... In the NFL that would obviously be the right thing to do. But in college? ESPN gave NCSt a 95.2% win probability after their TD. I'm not sure the odds of a college team/kicker making a short FG are greater than 95.2%.

I don't buy the 95.2% so I do think going down would've been the better move. I just question whether it is obviously the wrong thing to do to score in that situation

I mean it’s the same as taking points off the board in my book and you’re losing. If you’re ahead or tied I don’t score points that I see right in front of me. If I’m losing I score and hope the defense stops them.

It's telling that his HS teammate doesn't seem to be having the same issues. He's a beat or 3 late on a lot of his throws and isn't taking open sure completions. His completion percentage is consistently too low now. He's got the arm so hopefully that game winning drive settles him down. That pick in the 4th was a horrendous set of decisions. Why he didn't throw it to his first read is a mystery to me, but after he double clutched that throwing the ball cross body into traffic to a receiver who isn't looking was obviously a mistake.
I think this is a bit harsh. Give him 2 completions where the receivers got hit in the hands or chest (and not on terribly late throws) and he’s suddenly 21/33 on the night. Timing can definitely improve and will with practice. That throw in the RZ was too aggressive in the moment but it made it through the defense and hit the receivers hands at shoulder height. So your complaints weren’t really a factor.
