It does not seem to me that people are falling for anything, though. Everyone here seems to recognize the situation, which is that we are on the verge of another - well-earned - coaching change if our guys don't get their act together. If there were any actual hardcore Collins defenders still here, they died a very violent - and well-earned - death sometime during the 100-0 crisis. Geoff is going to keep doing his thing, but he isn't going to win back any hearts unless he starts winning. If you are meeting dummies out in the wild who are still crammed into the back of the clown car caravan, they are probably nowhere near autistic enough to be worth listening to.

I met a father of one of our guys just by chance this past winter, and he expressed to me that things had changed and seemed to be going the right direction this year as opposed to previous offseasons. But he was also at the bare bee-ass bottom of his patience and he seemed a bit distant as he was expressing what little optimism he could scrape together.

Everyone, even Collins, knows the score right now. Win or die. Anyone saying otherwise should be patted on/about the face until they go away.
 
Everyone will know Collins is gone by 10/2 after a 1-4 start. The question is do we eat another year of buyout to save recruiting or wait until the end of the season to fire him.

If it is our best chance to avoid a repeat of last year's final two weeks, fire him. Fire anyone and everyone, render sacrifices, engage in sorcery, whatever it takes but that must not happen again.

We bring in a new AD so they can start the search for a new coach and they can take decisive action as soon as the buyout drops.
There is little to be gained by paying Collins additional buy out money. We have already wasted too much money. That money will be better spent on the new coaching staff.

Man, I've been writing this everywhere, but once again...

2022 is the final guarantee year of his contract. If the guy is fired before the 2022 football year is over, his entire contract is 100% guaranteed and Tech would have to pay his full salary for 2022, plus his full salary of $10.5 million for the remaining three years on the contract. Waiting until the season is over lowers the buyout to $2.4 million per remaining year, or $7.2million. So, it's $10.5 million in October, or $7.2 million if they only hold off for a few more weeks.

If we start 1-4 the season is lost anyway, so why toss an extra $3.3 million in buyout out the window just to make the knee-jerk reaction to fire him before the end of season? It would be fiduciary malpractice to fire mid-season for a meaningless gesture expressing everyone's frustration and maybe embarrass him. Based on the clownish behavior, 9-25, 100-0 etc., it's clear the guy is beyond embarrassment anyway.

I’m afraid this may be the case. It is obvious GT no longer cares about athletics. The past 3 seasons of abysmal results yet no one says a peep publicly including our fans. If this were any other major school someone would have organized a protest or something. We have very few diehard fans so three seasons of destroying the program and nothing. The admin sees this and now know they won the battle. We are now the ACC Vandy. We have successfully made the transition from a 7-8 win program to a 3-5 win program. Recruiting will crater from here on out.

We will know if this is the case by the end of this season. It concerns me that none of our leaders seem to care.

What makes you sure of this? TDope acted like he had the buyout this year. No way Collins survives another 3 win season.

Sure, we might stink, but we have some newcomers, transfers that can make an impact and some outstanding freshman, talent wise, I think we are at the top of the acc, that being said, I think we go 3-9 with wins against Duke, WCU, and UCF, Clemson blows us out, FSU’s defense makes Sims look silly, UGA shuts us out again, and Virginia tech smacks us into the turf at Lane Stadium

According to an article I read - can't remember where - he was considering getting back into coaching at some point but not yet. Stated he missed football.
