Predictions for the 2022 football season

Toss - Clemson
W - WCU
L - Ole Miss
W - UCF
L - Pitt
W - Duke
W - Virginia
Toss - FSU
Toss - VT
Toss - Miami
Toss - UNC
L - UGA

4 wins. 3 Losses. 5 toss ups. Feeling pretty good if we’re at 4+ wins heading into November. Collins’ teams seem to perform better on the road than at home against similar levels of competition.
If that proves true through this season and we make a bowl, we need to consider banning Tech fans from home games and just let visitors in.

I’ll eat my hat if we have 4+ wins through the UVA game.

I hope I'm wrong but I can't see how 5 wins is not a stretch. We may be surprised. There has been a boatload of changes in the off season. Have to let this coalesce. Regardless 5 wins is still losing and should not save CGC's job. AD maybe if he has the nads to pull the trigger. The 3 year threshold for a rebuild was a bust. CGC should've made adjustments after the 1st year but we were playing kickball while he was talking about effort. What effort, coach? Losing is supposed to hurt. It's not supposed to be fun.

Every season, there is a team that turns out to be better than their opponents expected, and that team wins a lot of games because they are actually pretty decent, and other teams make the mistake of not taking them seriously.

Just for discussion, regarding "the hottest seat," is it he really? For that to be the case, we would have to facing a massive mismatch of demands and expectations vs the actual results. Among our fan base, compared to the rabid nature of some schools, how demanding of football excellence is there at our program? If it was truly high, would we have allowed the overall nature of our recruiting, facilities, attendance, and revenue to reach this paltry level? We have put up with mediocrity and irrelevance for about a generation now... If we were a program that was truly all about football excellence, demanding a coach that could compete and achieve with the best, is there a chance that we might have seen some vigorous signs of that by now? Is there a chance that many could be accepting our lot and think that all is OK if we pull out 5 wins, a total that many appear to think would be a good year, and would that imply we're a school that truly demands great athletic results compared to if we happened to win one or two less? What would it take for many to rationalize that ole Geoff is about as good as we can get and maybe somehow things will be better next year? I guess I'm not yet convinced that compared to some schools, such as Auburn, that the frying pan will be imminently searing...... :ugh: Rationalizing vs demanding.... In which camp are we?
Our fan base does care, our program does care, considering the last few years, I would be happy with a 4 win season this year but in the next few years we need to get back to 8+ win seasons

I won't predict for season unltil opening week.Way too many things can happen before then--most of them bad --(injuries, quits, transfers, flunking, loss of interest, etc).Unfortunately ,our depth is such that ANY loss of a key guy will hurt ANY position group badly.

I would love if we could have a season like this, 6-2 in the acc, if we can do this that would be awesome!

I agree but I also think there is a small chance we go bowling, Collins knows that he sucks, he knows that he is on the hottest seat in America, and he knows the players have questions about the program, but, I think there is a little bit of hope considering our “tough schedule” only has 3 guaranteed loses, with the rest being toss ups

To your point about the "hottest seat....."

CBS Sports has him just behind Scott Frost and essentially tied with AU's Harsin. Not a comfortable spot. This kind of outlook is not just bad for now, but possibly even worse for the seasons to come as it kills our current recruiting, which can leave longer term deficits. Auburn's recruiting is also currently in shambles.

team logoGeoff Collins4Collins' plan was to make this Atlanta's team: the fun, unique midway point between Clemson and Alabama. Something went wrong. The Yellow Jackets are 9-25 in Collins' three seasons. He has beaten just seven Power Five teams during. There were three losses last year by 30+ points. Complicating matters was losing leading rusher/kickoff returner Jahmyr Gibbs to Alabama in the transfer portal. Entering Year 4, there is loads of work to do. 2021 rating: 2

Is Auburn ‘dead’? Has USC lost its momentum? Recruiting mailbag

Is Auburn as dead in recruiting as it appears? — Chris P.

Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class added a commitment from four-star receiver Karmello English of Phenix City (Ala.) Central on July 4. English is the No. 144 overall player and the No. 24 receiver in the 2023 class. He’s the highest-rated player in Auburn’s class, which now has four commitments and ranks No. 70 nationally.

Auburn’s four commitments are all solid players. And given we’re still in July, there’s still theoretically some time to salvage this thing. It doesn’t seem like Auburn will, though. At least not right now.

If I’m an Auburn fan, I’m worried. Really worried. The Tigers just aren’t being seriously considered by many of the top players in the country. A quick scroll through 247Sports’ Auburn page, and you’ll see the Tigers don’t appear to be in the mix with many (or any) players in the top 100. And as a reporter who is tracking countless elite recruitments at once, I rarely, if ever, hear anything about Auburn. It’s just not a good place for the program to be in, especially when its rival is Alabama.

Auburn is in the mix for four-star quarterback Brock Glenn of Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne Collegiate School, but he’s rated as the No. 337 overall player and the No. 18 quarterback in the 2023 class. It’s easy to view him as a better prospect, though, given his recent offers from Ohio State, Florida State, LSU and others. Still, Auburn isn’t moving the needle.

That said, what do people expect?

The program railroaded its head coach last year and nobody is expecting Bryan Harsin to be around a year from now, so it’s not the most attractive destination right now for a top-100 recruit. Auburn’s recruiting isn’t permanently dead because it is one stable situation away from being back in the top 25. Right now, though, things seem to be kind of like a dumpster fire, and the program’s administration has only itself to blame for putting its coach in an impossible situation to succeed.

There’s only two ways he can go though - he wins and his seat is cooler (but still very warm) or he loses and he’s gone.

I think our toss-up games are UCF, Pitt, FSU, VT, UNC

We lose to Clemson, Ole Miss, Miami, and UGA in every scenario

I like our chances against Ole Miss. They have a back loaded schedule, with the first half of their season being Troy, Central Ark, GT, Tulsa, Kentucky, and Vandy. Four of their first five games are at home. They are likely to be over-rated and won't have much useful film to correct weaknesses from their first two games, and they'll be over-confident from a couple of cupcake blowouts. Unless we impress everyone in our opener, the Rebels could be sleeping on us.

CGC gets 10 wins this season!
After all he's won 9 already with just 1 out 12 this year he's a 10 win coach.

How could we fire a 10 win coach?

To paraphrase Vincent Vega . . . it will almost be worth it to go 3-9 just so I can come back here and LMAO at some of you fools.

Somewhere on the Western Carolina Catamounts website, someone is posting , , , "I like our chances against Georgia Tech!"
