Predictions for the 2022 football season

Tech has no leadership of any value anymore. It will not change. The Tech “leaders” think Collins is wonderful. :ughcry:
:deadhorse:Gooff Collins is a joke. 3-9.

OK, you convinced me that Mendenhall is good, but why wait? Let's go ahead to name him the 2023 coach now so he can start on recruiting.
Let the lame duck finish out coaching the season until the buyout cost comes down. A win-win and the fans, players and recruits would all have something to look forward to.

It doesn't work that way. A suspension has to be for cause. By naming a replacement before December, Tech would be in fact showing intent to "relieve him of his duties" before the end of year 4 and per terms of contract all 7 years of the contract would be 100% guaranteed. Attempting to avoid the buyout would never stand up to any court challenge. He will remain coach through the uga game.

Like any group of fans, there are factions within the influential booster/donors with differing definitions of "success"; some at 5, some at 6, some at 7 wins, just like fans on these boards. Garrett said his was 8 wins, but I think the inflection point where a critical mass of influential boosters/donors would consider retaining this coach starts at 6 wins and qualifying for a bowl. 5 will garner some support, but I don't think it will be enough to overcome the backlash. If the current football coach falls short again, it was publicly revealed that it has been made very clear to Stansbury that by sticking with his "I've got my Man" rejection of boosters calling for a change after last year, he has lashed his own future here to the football coach's success in 2022. If a coaching change will need to be made in 2022, I don't think Stansbury will be allowed to make the next choice of a football coach after all that's gone down. If it becomes clear during the season that a coaching change is probable, such as an expected 1-4 or 2-4 start, there might be a mid-season change in the AA, but it won't be the coach with the buyout, it might be Stansbury. The person making the next coach hire needs to be in place for a month or two to get acclimated and establish their program, and then begin putting out preliminary back door feelers to their own list of candidates, by the time interviews and a decision on the new coach is made. Game 6 is on October 8 followed by the bye week. If we're sitting at 2-4 and facing UVa before the brutal final 5 game stretch, an AD change around then provides the necessary lead time for a new AD to make a late December or January hire.

October will be action packed, one way or another.

When we replace Collins, I do hope we get someone like Mendenhall (who like Johnson) has a proven record of success and we are not just hoping and guessing that the new guy can coach. Another one of these like we have now and the program is DED. I sincerely hope Collins turns it around but am not very hopeful. Those believing, keep on believing, and I'll be watching but the current situation appears to me to be nothing more than a financial decision as to why he is still here. I guess he deserves one more season but 100-0 was/is hard to take and will never be forgetten. Add the 73-7 and ouch!!!

After 6 seasons at Virginia Mendenhall’s total record was 36-38. Added to that illustrious record is the fact that he walked away from the job apparently without any warning. If Tech is looking for a head coach at the end of the season I hope we could do better.

Who is punting and kicking for us this season. Our kicker left and I thought I saw that our punter was hurt. Our kicking game has cost us several wins in the past. We need every advantage this season.

Urban Meyer Sound good?

Sure, we might stink, but we have some newcomers, transfers that can make an impact and some outstanding freshman, talent wise, I think we are at the top of the acc, that being said, I think we go 3-9 with wins against Duke, WCU, and UCF, Clemson blows us out, FSU’s defense makes Sims look silly, UGA shuts us out again, and Virginia tech smacks us into the turf at Lane Stadium
Holy commas.
