Randy Edsall

1) He has already served as the head coach of a BCS Conference program, thus understanding what it takes to manage the media, alumni, parents, kids, and other coaches.

2) He has the composure and personality to build belief from those who hear soundbites from him...or meet him personally.

3) He does not just think he understands what it is like to coach at Georgia Tech (alumni, classes, academic req's, etc.)...he has actually done it...and done so under someone who was successful at Georgia Tech.

4) He did a terrific job leading a program from Div. 1AA to Div. 1 in a BCS conference where they were expected to be a doormat for many years...yet quickly built team to a winning record despite having lesser talent.

5) It seems everyone who has played for him or worked with him will attest to his integrity and knowledge as a coach.

6) He would come in to GT with a perfectly clean record in terms of any skeletons.

7) Because of his level of expertise and experience...he would have lesser problems recruiting/managing good quality coordinators.

8) Video clip interview with Randy Edsall...

go to the 1:25 minute mark to get to it.

I think Randy would be a great coach at GT. He is getting a big boost from some former alumni and SA's.

I like him only, if we can't get a high profile energetic guy like RN.
We can't get a great offensive type coach like Hatcher or Fisher. (I don't think hiring a DC is the best answer)
And lastly we dont give the job to Tenuta.
So, he would be on my B list but I would be ok with Randy as I know many would.

...and Jim Donnan just reported that someone from ESPN saw him on a plane bound for ATL. I wonder how true that is?

I will tell you this...he gives an impressive interview.

I like Edsall's qualifications and how he totally put UConn football on the map, BUT something about GT hiring him just doesn't excite me like the others do.

8. His offense is the most boring in the Big East.

you know why imho?...because he is more of a known quantity. If he were still a coordinator somewhere many would like him more.

People love the surprise element and "not knowing for sure" factor of a coordinator. It is like looking for the prize in a Cracker Jack box.

Edsall would be a great choice. I like Will Muschamp a lot as well. I'll love whomever Rad selects. If Rad thinks RN is the best, I'll learn to love that is well.

That is the thing, I don't think we get the excitement factor you would get, with a RN, Hatcher, Fisher type hire. This supposedley is a big factor for who we hire, if what Drad and Clough said is true.

I still, do not think hiring a Def. coach as head coach is the best answer.

I really wish that hiring Edsall didn't mean the end for Tenuta, but realistically it does. Guess we would promote Giff to DC? What would we do for our offense?

Why does Randy mean JT is leaving?

Randy likes to attack and blitz so does John...

Randy knows GT, theh ill, the academics, the rivalry, the ACC, recruited in the southeast or should i say "recruits".... He has coached pro ball as well

Randy would be here awhile imo and RN might leave pac-10 job after a couple years

I don't know for sure, but I would think Edsall being a defensive guy would want input into what the defense is doing. Tenuta wants, and has, total control of the defense. Might be an issue there.

We do not know that it would.

However, if we do not make Giff a DC soon he will be gone...and he definitely can get us the "Jimmy's and Joe's"

Keeping both Tenuta and Giff is probably not happening. Something has to give. We have to pick one or the other more then likely, Giff keeps recruiting stable.

Tenuta moving on, or getting the promotion, makes sense financially for us. We could use the extra cash about now.

(Tangent: At least one of the candidates has already contacted Collins about his interest in an on-field position here. So, somebody's paying attention.)

Nate, is there a possibility Randy might one day leave Tech for the HC job at Syracuse?

That almost makes me think RE but what the hell do I know. I think JT is gone if RE gets it but maybe stay if RN gets it.

My son said that Drad's boy said that his dad has made the pick but won't tell anyone in the family.

I asked Harrison to bend his arm behind his back tomorrow to get the answer so I should know about 9 in the morning.
