Reasons for Randy Edsall...

Sorry 56, I know he was your coach, but without Friedgen, O'Leary is a good not great coach.

Don't get me wrong either, I loved GOL but when he left, I wasn't upset.
maybe not great...but UCF aint doing too bad... anyways why muschamp, what does he have on his CV that enamors you?

Uconn wasnt even D1 when he got there..
Whats muschamp done besides coordinate highly talented defenses and still get steamrolled by UGA the last 2 years plus his last year at LSU

We can get into the semantics of it all day I guess. I could say chan was nothing without tenuta and would have been gone years ago without him....
How does that equal Edsall ?...That was Friedgen/Oleary..

I would take Edsall only if we don't get RN or Hatcher and we dont give it to Tenuta..I like Edsall, but, he is on my B list.

Nate, im not trying to flame you. Im just saying, that it has been proven that GT is a plum job, it is encouraging seeing all the coaches that are interested and apparently would love to be here.

I just feel we should get the absolute best candidate and I don't feel Edsall is the best of all the candidates we are looking at.

who is and why

Edsall has had 1 winning season and is a former DC and we don't need a defensive guy IMHO..We need an energetic Offensive guy that possibly keeps Tenuta.
IMHO...All of us have opinions and that is mine.
I know it is emotional for you, and that is natural, since you played under him.

all is want is a reason(s) to like someone else...be a salesman,,,sell me

who is your guy though and why

1st Rick Neuheisal proven winner and energetic offensive mind that has won a conference championship, national recogniztion. Will put fans in the seats like no other coach mentioned to date.

2nd Chris Hatcher, offensive guru that is a young upcomer with deep Southern ties that will also put butts in the seats and win IMHO.

3rd Jimbo Fisher , proven Ocoordinater at Lsu and Auburn and would be the best recruiter of ALL candidates mentioned.

4th Jon Tenuta, if we went the Defensive route..Why bring in someone on the defensive side, while we have Tenuta.

the bottom 2 have no chance IMO
the top guy has +'s and -'s like the rest but the flip flops and guitar lessons of kumbaya might take awhile to win us over unless he beats UGA of course

I would like to see us hire Hatcher.

I feel that he is a young coaching prodigy with the right mixture of charisma, determination, and know how to take us to the next level. I feel this is our chance to hire the next generation's Steve Spurrier.

I don't think that anyone that we are looking at will be able to recruit Georgia better. Hatcher is the prodigal son of Georgia football and just about everyone in our state wants to see him succeed. By making him part of the GT Family, we gain the goodwill of his supporters. A significant number of whom are in parts of the state that otherwise care very little or not at all for our program now. Other candidates might make a bigger splash nationally, but people in Conn. or Cali don't buy season tickets and the majority of our recruits, one of the main sources of our success, will always come from in-state.

Some people have doubts because he has not been an OC at the D-IA level. I say that Hatcher could have become BCS level OC years ago, but he wants to be his own man, a HC. I believe that people in coaching circles do not have any doubts in his knowledge of the X's and O's side of things. He has demostrated the ability and flexibility to implement both as a pass happy and run happy offense. I also think that his experience as a HC albeit at a lower level has better prepared him for the GT job than being a coordinator at the D-IA level even if at a big program. Guys that have never been HC might have put a lot of planning and thought into how to handle the additional responsibilities of a HC, but they do not have the practical experience of actually implementing such a plan like Hatcher.

I think that Hatcher is the only candidate that we are currently considering that people in our own state could view as a true rival to Mark Richt. Hatcher is easily characterized as the young lion rising to challenge the old lion (Richt) and people love an underdog. Every other candidate would just be another GT coach passing through town for a few years, but in Hatcher they would someone that they will be vested in whether he ends up staying at GT long term or not.

True, but much of his national recognition is negative. I've talked to some Auburn fans who are shocked a program with GT's reputation would really consider him. Some view it like us hiring Harrick as our next basketball coach, 'just win baby'. Neuheisal's downside is that he'll have alumni gunning for him before he even unpacks his boxes. His plus side is that he may be able to attract sidewalk fans.

2nd Chris Hatcher, offensive guru that is a young upcomer with deep Southern ties that will also put butts in the seats and win IMHO.

Big question on Hatcher is can he win at this level. What could be a huge plus is his potential ability to recruit head to head in what has been traditionally UGA recruiting territory. Still, he has not had to recruit for a school like GT before, so he may have a big learning curve in both recruiting and working in a high profile program. Whether Hatcher would appeal to the Atlanta consumer base is another question, is he too 'South Georgia Redneck' for the Atlanta transplants and urban types DRad may want to market too?

Don't get me wrong, I like Edsall, but I see him as an O'Leary Equivalent, and I think that if we take a risk on a Hatcher or a Muschamp, we will see bigger dividends.

i'll accept 3 in a row over a uga and a top 10 finish, 10 win season, and 5 straight top 25 finishes anyday of the week

Would accept never beating Richt and never beating Bowden (or maybe Beamer)?

Then I hope you can get DRad's ear or else he might not get a shot.

1gtfan, RE shows quite a bit of enthusiasm as evidenced by his sprint (he's pretty fast!) down the sideline a few weeks ago when his back broke free for a long gain...I thought he was gonna throw a block for the dude!

As for not bringing in a DC, I agree, but to bee fair to RE, he dropped that status a long time ago. He's now a HC all the way...unlike WM.

My first choice is still the admittedly risky deal of bringing on Hatcher. I'll bee very disappointed if he doesn't get a interview.

JTS, you have forwarded this post to DR, right!?

Very well stated ! Thanks, Z

Direct from the "For What It's Worth" department SW Florida branch, a Neuheisel hiring would bring several different components to our HC equation. He has an undeniably distinct "rock-star" aura about him and is just an exceptional recruiter, albeit not as local feeder HS oriented as he could be. However, when he sits down in a living room and displays his recent savvy and NFL experience, he'll demonstrate that he's familiar with the avenues and byways to NFL gold that a career "good ol' local boy" might have some major trouble matching. Bland he ain't.

The level of development and maximization work that he did with OB's Aikman and Tuiasosopo on the college level and retread Steve McNair in the NFL points to his wide skill set as well as his flexibility.

He'd bring a persona to the interview and rubber chicken circuit that's as entertaining as Pepper Rogers and as knowledgable as Bill Curry, and the overall impact would be further enhanced in those arenas when compared to the departed Chan Dailey. (Is it my imagination, or is it becoming harder by the day to remember Chan?)

The negative aspects of his career involve the facts that he's an attorney with a JD degree, a guy whose poor judgement in recruiting practices has put him under magnified NCAA scrutiny and that he's an admitted office pool brackets gambler, which caused some stir a couple years back.

In his defense, the recruiting episodes aren't likely to be repeated and when he was playing in the pool, he actually won it.

Unfortunately, the "being a lawyer" thing is not only inexcusable but a black mark that can of course never be erased. It will always be his cross to bear.

In summary, a Neuheisel hire might not be the safest pick, but it certainly has the potential of being the most spectacularly successful, and some excitement on the flats wouldn't be a bad thing at all these days!
