Reasons for Randy Edsall...

Tenuta moving on, or getting the promotion, makes sense financially for us. We could use the extra cash about now.

(Tangent: At least one of the candidates has already contacted Collins about his interest in an on-field position here. So, somebody's paying attention.)

I like that candidate.

1. It would be too bad if we can't work out Geoff and Tenuta.

2. I'll take a proven DC over a proven recruiter anyday. IMHO.

3. I hope we didn't fire Gailey imprudently and now have to hire on the cheap. I don't think we did so I don't think the $400k for Tenuta will break us.

He is not my 1st choice, i can sure live with him being the choice. RN scares the hell out of me and i fear for the future at GT should he be hired.

my main concerns are:

1. He is not the 'high energy' guy like hatcher, RN, etc.

2. His record as a Head coach is 46-47 (not even .500)

3. Does he have the charisma for the job? (that ultimately was the downfall of chan because chan had none, and thats why chan was such a bad coach.)

My first choice would be either Hatcher or Muschamp. Next would be Tenuta. Then would be RN, even though I have my doubts about him. And then finally, if all else fails, there would be Edsall.

I think Randy would be a great coach at GT. He is getting a big boost from some former alumni and SA's.

Based on the youtube clip, and people's reported past experience with Edsall, it is no surprise the alumni base is supporting him. Edsall's persona (based on my limited exposure to him) seems very much in the mold of traditional Tech coaches. He almost seems like a young Bill Curry on camera to me, and I don't mean that to slight him in any way whatsoever.

RN and WM both have something in common, they would come in the door alienating some portion of the Alumni base. One for actually being a Dawg, the other for reportedly cheating like one. Personally, I could support either one; but they would divide the alumni base, that's already a given based on what is being said on the message boards.

However, what I think is the big unknown is which fanbase does DRad most want to attract, the traditional alumni base or the yet untapped Atlanta consumer base? Edsall may be the least attractive of our designated 3 top candidates from a marketing point of view for some the very reasons the alumni base support him. Can Edsall excite the general public and keep them interested in the program, that may be the biggest question mark DRad has about him right now.

I'm no expert at college football....but i dont see anything going on at Uconn that makes me want Edsall. Seems like a nice enough guy but also reminds me of the guy who just left. I know everybody wants some great PR guy and i want that too. To me there are only 2 things that matter in football, 1) building kids into good people 2) getting those "good people" to win every saturday. Gailey seemed to be good with the kids. Would be kind of an expensive to swap coaches for the same w's and l's as Gailey.

Yeah, maybe a bad comparison. I guess i should have just left it at i dont see Uconn as great example of the style of football i'd like to see on the flats.

Yeah, people can't complain about his record at UCONN. I mean they just turned D-1 like 3 or 4 years ago for goodness sakes. He's built that program.

Randy knows..... recruited in the southeast or should i say "recruits"

I don't think Edsall has a great handle on recruiting the southeast. He spent one year down here and hasn't been around since.

he recruited the SE at GT, and while at BC with coughlin because he recruited in high school in florida

recruiting one year at GT and being the se recruiter for boston college still doesn't tell me he has the relationships with high schools and coaches that he needs. This is the ONLY flaw I see to hiring Edsall.

BOR, understand what your saying but go take a look at UCONN's roster, he recruits the south heavily, mainly FL, it really is interesting and amazing he gets that many southern kids to go up to Connecticut. I think Randy will be able to recruit fine at GT.

Don't get me wrong, I like Edsall, but I see him as an O'Leary Equivalent, and I think that if we take a risk on a Hatcher or a Muschamp, we will see bigger dividends.

i'll accept 3 in a row over a uga and a top 10 finish, 10 win season, and 5 straight top 25 finishes anyday of the week

Sorry 56, I know he was your coach, but without Friedgen, O'Leary is a good not great coach.

Don't get me wrong either, I loved GOL but when he left, I wasn't upset.

I was thinking the same thing earlier this evening, Edsall=Oleary.

But my 2 are Rick Neuheisal and Chris Hatcher...
These are the 2 risks I think I would take if I were in Drad's shoes. Both are higher risks but both come with a lot more to gain..IMHO...
Both would put butts in the seats and with both we have a better chance in keeping Tenuta.

How does that equal Edsall ?...That was Friedgen/Oleary..

I would take Edsall only if we don't get RN or Hatcher and we dont give it to Tenuta..I like Edsall, but, he is on my B list.

Randy still has a losing record at Uconn. Does one season = great coach?
